Experiment: blogger Eric Lamkin ate 40000 calories in 24 hours and survived

Among people who follow the right diet, there are those who sometimes allow themselves to depart from the rules. This is not because they lack willpower. It’s about the concept of Cheat day – as a rule it is one day a week (for some people less often), when even professional athletes can afford anything they want. Some went further and started to earn money on their own pleasure. One such genius is American blogger Eric Lamkin.

As a child, Eric was overweight, which caused him to be bullied at school. At some point, this led to the fact that the guy practically stopped eating and lost more than 30 kilograms. Parents were concerned about the changes that were happening to their son, but they did not give due importance to it. Eric did not stop torturing his body with his own rigid diet and in the end he brought himself to a state where at a height of about 1.80 meters he weighed 55 kilograms. At the age of 17 he was hospitalized with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa.

To be discharged from the hospital he had to be under the supervision of doctors for two weeks, who monitored every meal. To be discharged from the treatment center he had to prove that he was capable of taking care of himself. According to him, it was a very difficult period of his life, he felt like he was in prison. He was not cured from the first time, after some time he was again in the hospital, this time the treatment lasted three months, but, according to him, it really helped, he was able to become himself. And in 2013, he discovered speed eating competitions for the first time. As he himself pointed out, he doesn’t eat fast enough, but he can still eat a lot.

This interested him and then he came up with the idea of a video blog, in which he would organize various food-related Challenges for himself and shoot it on camera. In one of these videos he consumed 100,000 kilocalories in four days. He later recounted that the hardest part of the challenge was enduring the physical pain because his digestive system simply couldn’t accommodate all the food he was consuming.

And so in 2017, he determined the next step for himself was to consume 40000 kilocalories in 24 hours. Before he started, he defined three rules for himself:

  • Consume a minimum amount of liquid calories; in his opinion, it’s too easy;
  • Spend the minimum amount of money;
  • Meet the deadline in exactly 24 hours.

For breakfast, which began at 8:52 a.m., he made himself a dozen eggs scrambled with coconut oil, a whole box of all sorts of donuts that he generously smeared with peanut butter, a whole plate of toast, a can of chocolate paste, and two boxes of cereal with milk.

The doughnuts came first, followed by the exotic scrambled eggs, and then Eric started on the toast, which he smeared with both chocolate paste and peanut butter at the same time, which was what a full breakfast looked like by his standards, he declared before he sent another sandwich into his mouth. When the bread and chocolate paste were done, it was the turn of the cookies, peanut butter came in handy again, in the short intervals between meals he was apparently feeling hungry again, so he snacked on apples. The last one was cereal, he ate more than 12,500 calories at breakfast, and at the same time he ate seemingly the most common foods. After his hearty snack, Eric spent two hours on the bike.

At 12:47 p.m., it was time to get ready for his next meal. He called it: “the incredible Big Mac Challenge.” Naturally, he went to McDonald’s and got four Big Macs, four large fries, four large Frappe shakes and a salad, because he couldn’t do without greens. At home, he added a large bag of chips and the same bag of peanuts.

The second breakfast or early lunch included another 12500 calories. In total, he ate 25,000 calories in two meals, which was already more than half of the goal he had set for the day, and he spent $76 dollars. After that, it was off to the gym.

His next calorie delivery point was the Cinnabon Cafe, where he bought six large buns. This time he didn’t drive home, but started eating them right in the car. As promised from the beginning, he did not consume liquid calories, so he drank almost nothing but water throughout the day. After snacking in the car, Eric finished the peanuts he had started at the last meal and had a candy bar for dessert. The amount eaten during the day exceeded 32000 calories, and insatiable Eric went to a Chinese food restaurant, after that the amount spent exceeded 110 dollars. And, of course, he didn’t forget to get dessert – ice cream.

At 6:51 p.m., he was sitting at his desk at home again. Ice cream didn’t seem enough for him, so he also made chocolate-covered peanut paste.

Accompanying all of the above was an entire package of Mac n’ Cheetos, which is macaroni and cheese fried in breadcrumbs. The noodles, chicken and rice from the Chinese restaurant were on the plate first. Then he pulled an ice cream cone out of the freezer and started on the Mac n’ Cheetos. As soon as the spicy dish was over, the ice cream came, followed by chocolate-covered peanut butter, then it was time for a second carton of ice cream.

In total, he ate more than 41,000 calories, 4,840 grams of carbohydrates, 2,131 grams of fat, 885 grams of protein and 2,400 grams of sugar.
