These tips will help both children and adults who are not ready to give up an active lifestyle.

How to combine sports and studies? This question has remained open for many years, and no one can give an exact answer. Sooner or later an athlete will definitely face a choice. However, we have some advice.

Before you take a step in one direction or another, you need to be sure of a well-considered decision, which was made not hastily, but thoughtfully, from different angles. The whole problem is that life is very long and sports will always be shorter than life. It’s no secret that athletes have an age threshold after which they are simply “written off”. And that’s what an athlete needs to think about – how he plans to live his life, what he plans to do, and what will be left of his career after it’s over.

Why it is important not to overdo it

Yes, of course, there is a perception that there are athletes who have already earned the rest of their lives for themselves and their grandchildren, but how many are there?

In my practice, I see a lot of people who made a choice in favor of sports. Literally “put” all their time and life into it. But at some point something went wrong. So they can’t get out of this situation without the help of a sports psychologist. Or after the end of their career, many athletes become chemically dependent people, because they don’t know how to do anything else and don’t understand how to live further.

Often children at a young age, after watching famous successful athletes, decide on their own that their mission in life is sports and drop out of school. If this is the case, parents need to educate their children early on.

If parents are of the same opinion and literally pull their children out of school, and there are many such cases, it makes the situation more complicated.

How to combine sports and studies

As a sports psychologist I am deeply convinced that it is essential to be able to combine sports and studies. It will not be easy, but it is definitely possible. For this purpose it is necessary to organize time management correctly, namely to plan time clearly. Take into account that the athlete just need quality healthy sleep and nutrition, perhaps to do some task during the road, as well as sacrifice walks and time with peers and friends.

Also making life much easier for athletes is the minimal distance of the school and sports club from home. This increases the productive use of their time.

And, of course, the most important thing is support. When there are those who understand and help, it is always easier to “roll mountains”. The advantage is that the coach and teacher also understand all these nuances, then the athlete also gets support from them. Unfortunately, this is not always the case in practice.

Sport is a hard work of many years, which is not always appreciated, because it depends on many factors and can come to an end literally at any moment.
