Indoor triathlon race: the “Championship” team took first place

On June 8, 2017, World Class Kuntsevo Fitness Club hosted an amateur competition in team Indoor triathlon. The essential difference from the classic race was that each team member passed not a complex, but one specific distance: swimming, running or cycling.

This type of competition is more accessible than the usual Outdoor triathlon, as it does not require expensive equipment and outfit from the participants. All distances are not based on the principle of “who is faster”, but on the principle of “who is bigger”. The winner is the team that for a certain amount of time drove, swam and ran the greatest number of kilometers.

The “Championship” team was represented by members of the editorial staff: Alexander Tokmakov – swimming, Nikita Kuzin – cycling, Timofey Kuzin – running. The championship was really difficult for the guys. Even at the initial stage – swimming – Alexander’s leg cramped up halfway through the race, which made it difficult for him to finish with a big gap from his rivals. As a result, he managed to swim 375 meters (with a total of 3.75 km). Because of this, the team fell far behind the leaders and realized that on the next distances it was necessary to give their best at any cost.

At the stage with a bicycle Nikita rode 17.7 km. Immediately after passing the distance he shared his impressions:
“It was very hard, I ran out of strength after the first 10 minutes. Then I had to endure for 20 minutes, and here teamwork helped me. The guys waved a towel at me to make it easier to breathe, splashed me with water and told me what time my competitors had.”

The team spirit did not leave the guys and at the final stage with running. Timofey took a good pace from the beginning, and the prospect of showing the best overall result became more than possible. During 20 minutes while our athlete was running, the guys were live streaming on Instagram, where the employees of “Championship” and Timofey’s friends could support and encourage him, because team spirit and support are very motivating in such situations. As a result, 5 kilometers were added to the team’s piggy bank at the finish line (20 kilometers in total).

According to the results of the Indoor triathlon race, the “Championship” team was in the lead, having covered 41.45 kilometers in an hour.
During the competition we managed to talk to the triathlon coach Victoria Shubina, who told us about what should be taken into account to show a good result on Indoor distances.

Stop wishing – start doing something

This advice applies to all three types of distances, or even if you are going to do a regular triathlon rather than a team triathlon. You just have to get up and go and learn something about it, go to the same fitness club. For example, World Class club has a special triathlon school where they can prepare you.

A reliable coach

You need a coach, a guru, a person who will help you. In this sense, be careful, as it is akin to choosing a life partner. The trainer must be a good fit emotionally, you must trust him or her completely.

Patience, proper nutrition and recovery

It is important to know that you can’t become a triathlete in one day. It is imperative that you distribute your strength, do not expect fast results and do not try to jump over several steps at once. You have to be consistent and enjoy every little bit of progress. Although the lower your fitness level, the faster you will feel progress, literally the next day. The higher your level, the less obvious that progress will be to you.

Take your time and recover and eat properly, because the training process is not just about physical exertion and overload.

Time to prepare for the starts

You can prepare for an Indoor triathlon race in a month and a half. The only limitation is swimming: a person must be able to stay on the water. It is especially realistic to learn in such a time if you participate in a team triathlon, where everyone goes through their own stage. Moreover, in any condition you will always be able to finish, as the main thing is not the distance, but the time, you do everything according to the time. If it’s hard for you to run, you can walk 10 minutes on the track. Your distance will not be the same as that of the person who took first place, but you will finish and you will already have some result.
