Is it really necessary to wear white clothes in summer?

“When it is hot outside, it is important that the body is not subjected to overheating. It is known that the body cools itself through the evaporation of sweat from the surface of the skin. This is why clothing should allow air and moisture to pass through easily.”

White clothing reflects heat and sunlight, helping to keep body temperature low. Meanwhile, dark-colored clothing has the opposite effect – it absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

Researchers in Japan conducted an experiment to find out what color clothes are less heated by the sun’s rays. Several polo shirts of different colors were left outside in the heat. The results showed that dark colored items became significantly warmer than light colored ones even after a relatively short time in the sun. The scientists noted white, yellow, gray, red, blue and green as the best shades for summer.

Of course, the choice of clothing is also a matter of personal preference and style. Some people prefer bright or dark colors regardless of the weather. It is important to find a balance in this case.

What else to pay attention to when choosing clothes in the heat?

It’s important to remember that comfort and protection from the heat depend on more than just the color of your clothes.

At high temperatures, avoid tight clothing, as it is poorly ventilated in the air, making it difficult for sweat to evaporate from the skin and creating a risk of overheating. The exception is sports fabrics, which are designed with special technologies to easily wick away sweat during intense exercise.

Look for clothing labeled “moisture wicking” or “quick-drying product.”

You should also avoid exposing yourself too much in the heat. Clothing protects the body from the scorching sun. Natural fabrics such as cotton or linen are good for this. These materials “breathe”, that is, they allow air to circulate and promote evaporation of sweat, which helps to cool the body. Such clothing is not only comfortable for the body, but also protects the skin from sunburn.

What about footwear?

In hot weather, the skin of your feet also needs to breathe freely. Open shoes that are easy to put on and take off are the best option for summer.

You should also pay attention to the choice of material – leather or cotton are good for air permeability and moisture absorption. As with clothing, in the heat of summer you should choose light-colored shoes.

Avoid heavy, tightly closed shoes, as they can cause overheating, discomfort, sweating and, as a result, lead to unpleasant odor.

Important accessories in the heat

In the scorching sun, you can not forget about head protection. A great option would be wide-brimmed hats that also cover the face and shoulders.

In bright light, sunglasses are also important. They will help protect your eyes from ultraviolet radiation.
