“Through do not want” do not: why you should not bark yourself for laziness?

How often have you become lazy to go to training or go out for a run, and afterwards you scolded yourself for being weak-willed for a long time? After all, this is just an excuse: you need to force yourself and do it, even if you don’t want to. But is it so? Together with psychologist Nadezhda Pozharova, we understand why you should not scold yourself for laziness and what it can tell you.

What is laziness really?

Immediately it should be noted that in psychology, laziness as a phenomenon is not considered as something negative. While in society this word has a certain coloring: if you are lazy, it means that something is wrong with you and something should be done about it. In terms of the human condition, laziness is a signal of internal resistance.

Where does laziness come from?

Internal resistance, subconscious unwillingness to do something can be connected with fatigue. A person simply does not have the strength and resources to direct energy in another direction, for example, for sports. Or he already has a heavy workload.

Hope: Very often people who strive for achievements and super achievements do not take into account the fact that they have a living body and it is necessary to listen to it. After all, the body is not superfluous here, and people often exclude it. They have goals, but they do not really coincide with the rhythms and needs that the body itself has. Then a person starts to get angry, to berate himself.

We all live in the body, and if at the moment it gives signals that you want something different, you should listen to it.

Sometimes the cause of laziness is accumulated fatigue, when the body begins to take resources from reserves. This can lead to the fact that at some point the body will no longer be able to function normally: it will become more vulnerable to disease, breakdowns, including nervous breakdowns.

Nadezhda: It is very important that in such moments people support themselves, because many people are not accustomed to perceive rest as a necessary need of the body. More often it is considered a luxury.

In fact, rest is an integral part of life, thanks to which a person gets strength and resources to direct his energy further.

Why is it normal to be lazy?

Laziness and a certain apathetic state are stress signals, that is, the body’s protective reaction to certain events. Sometimes a person may simply not care about sports or other activities. For example, he was fired from his job, and now this experience is a priority for him – it is important to live it thoroughly and openly.

Nadezhda: It is very important to realize the context of life, because a person is an evolving system, and it is impossible to realize why certain things are happening to him or her without looking at life. And more often than not, people themselves view themselves in isolation from the huge number of contexts in which they live.

Sometimes laziness is a conditioned signal that there are higher priorities right now. And that’s okay. It’s worth considering your life in the fullness of events. Try to understand when laziness appeared, how you feel now, what has changed recently. Perhaps the workload has increased or a stressful event has happened?

Try to listen to yourself because constant internal resistances can be a sign of developing illnesses on a physical or mental level. It is important to feel and listen to yourself.
