Unusual method of cleaning out the fridge helped a trainer lose 45 kg weight

How often we hear (sometimes even from ourselves) the phrase: “If I had willpower, I wouldn’t eat so much junk food”. But did you know that relying on willpower often leads to poor results in achieving your goals?
It turns out that the choice of the foods we consume does not depend so much on our motivation and willpower as on the environment around us. A simple experiment conducted by future Precision Nutrition coach Dominic Matteo proves this perfectly.

What’s the point of the experiment?

To perform it, you have to do a general cleaning in the kitchen, so to speak. You think you have to scrub the floors and wipe down the stove? You’re wrong. First, you need to go through the products that are stored in your cabinets and refrigerator. Then – dispose of some of them according to a certain principle. This approach will help you rethink your diet and take a fresh look at what’s keeping you from staying in shape.

So what steps should you take during such a cleanup?

1. Divide up your foods

Think of a traffic light and divide your foods into groups – into “red”, “yellow” and “green”. And no, their color scheme has nothing to do with it. To “red” should be attributed to those positions that cause you discomfort and, as you believe, interfere on the way to the possession of an ideal figure. Add to this list foods that:

  • interfere with your goal;
  • contribute to your overeating;
  • cause allergies;
  • cause stomach pain;
  • no longer enjoy.

The “yellow” list should include those foods that you find not very healthy, but you can eat them in small quantities and stop.

“Green” food basket are those items that are healthy, you can eat them in reasonable quantities and not overeat.

2. Reach for the recycle garbage can

I mean, the trash bin. It will come in handy for the “red” foods that you’ll have to ruthlessly dispose of. Or another option is to give them to the homeless or the needy. And we’re not buying any more. At least not anytime soon.

“We’ll put the yellow group away. You can find a special box for them, a thermos bag or allocate the top shelf. Let them stay there, out of sight.

But the “stale” buy more and fill the refrigerator with them. Of course, here too it is important to know the measure, so that, for example, vegetables just did not spoil for nothing, if you do not have time to eat them. Let these foods always be available for snacking. Experts advise to peel oranges in advance, buy small carrots, boil hard-boiled eggs.

What’s next?

3- Observe

Observe your behavior during the week. Do you have enough healthy snacks or do you keep reaching for the “yellow stuff” on the top shelf? Do you want to break off and go in the night in search of “forbidden”? Most often – laziness.

The point is that the environment around us is often conducive to overeating. We are sure that those whose office in conditions of self-isolation moved into the kitchen, have a particularly hard time. The refrigerator is always at hand.

This phenomenon now even has a name – “Berardi’s First Law”.

It says: “If some food is in your house, you (someone you love or someone you can hardly stand, but he lives in your house) will sooner or later eat it”. But just as interesting is its corollary, “If healthy foods are in your house, then you (someone you love or someone you can barely tolerate) will eat them sooner or later.”

By the way, after a week’s experiment, Matteo continued to follow this system of eating and lost 45 kg, which allowed him to become a trainer in a large company.
