What happens to the body when sleep patterns are disrupted?

Lack of sleep can be one of the causes of excess weight.

What is generally considered a sleep mode? Why is it dangerous to disrupt it?

What is the mode of sleep?

It is believed that an adult needs to sleep about eight hours a day for health. This is the opinion of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Society for Sleep Research, while the American National Sleep Society says 7-9 hours on average and 6-10 hours as acceptable values.

A sleep schedule is like a clock that the body uses to orient itself. This is how it can recognize when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to wake up. At the same time, the sleep schedule works together with the body’s needs. Depending on various factors (fatigue, lack of sleep, etc.) we may need more time to sleep or, on the contrary, less. It turns out that the time of night rest is under the control of the circadian biological clock. When they think it’s time to rest, they begin actively working with other body systems to slow down various processes and help us fall asleep. The same thing happens when it’s time to wake up, but in reverse.

The sleep-wake cycle develops from birth. Guided by a number of cues, the body decides whether it is a good time to sleep or not. These include daylight, meal times and the regular timing of different activities that take place at certain times of the day. In this way, the body naturally adjusts the sleep-wake cycle to match the cycle of day and night.

  • Impairment of cognitive functions (thinking, memory and attention), orientation, and control. This leads to decreased performance and can cause accidents on the road;
  • deterioration of appearance. Sleep deprivation affects the way we look. Bags under the eyes, puffiness and bruises appear as a result of regular sleep deprivation. In addition, lack of sleep provokes premature aging of the skin;
  • feeling unwell and irritable. When we are sleep deprived, we feel weaker and more susceptible to negative emotions. We become irritable and irritable.

What happens when the sleep schedule is disrupted?

When we follow a regimen, we feel healthy and happy. But if the regime is disrupted, the body does not have time to rest and fully recover. This increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and psychological problems. If sleep deprivation becomes chronic, turning into insomnia, neurological and other diseases develop.
