Especially this information will be useful for those who are taking their first steps in mastering snowboarding. But experienced athletes can also learn something useful.
There is a common misconception that snowboards, like skis, are chosen based on the athlete’s height. This is not true – it’s your weight that matters when choosing a board. What other things do I need to know and take into account?
Selection parameters
Defirst important parameter of the board is its deflection. Four main varieties can be distinguished.
1. Camber. The camber is a “bridge”. Due to this shape, the maximum working length of the edge is preserved. Camber provides high stability on the slope. Recommended for beginners or advanced riders – as one board for both beginners and advanced riders.
2. Rocker (aka banana). The board has a short effective edge length. This is mainly the area between the bindings. Plus – rocker has high maneuverability. Minus – low grip on the slope. It should be considered for beginners and those who prioritize low speed and easy maneuverability.
3. Flat. This is a flat snowboard that has curves only on the edges. Such boards are used for mastering trick elements.
4. Hybrid is the most numerous and diverse type. It includes different combinations of the other types of camber. The most famous is the Flying V from Burton. Such snowboards combine the advantages of camber and rocker, while practically devoid of their disadvantages. But the price of hybrids is higher.
Desecond important parameter is stiffness. It is indicated on a scale from 1 to 10. Usually “ones” and “twos” are models for children. As the stiffness increases, more and more aggressive riding is expected.
People who do not chase speed and prefer easy maneuverability should choose models with stiffness up to five.
Fans of speed, control of movements and confident behavior during intensive riding will be suitable for boards with higher stiffness. But it should be understood that there is no single standard for testing snowboards by stiffness. Boards of different brands with the same parameters may differ slightly in feel.
Dethird parameter is the width of the board. This point is not relevant for everyone. If the rostovka next to the number is index W, the board is a type of Wide, that is wide. Such snowboards are chosen by those who have a boot size 43 and above. Standard snowboards will be too narrow for them.
Get a good start
If a person takes the first steps in mastering snowboarding and wants to save money, you should start buying equipment with boots. Everything else at the initial stages can be rented.
But what you should not save on is your training and your safety. The money saved on the purchase of equipment should be spent on the services of a good instructor. He will put the correct skating technique, in which a person will be confident and responsible to manage the projectile.
As practice shows, even the most experienced friends-snowboarders in terms of training is almost worse than trying to master riding on your own.
In addition, at any level of mastery of the projectile is important helmet, back protection, special protective shorts and medical insurance. The last point is often neglected and done in vain. On the slopes you can often meet a beginner extreme skier without proper technique and experience, but with a great desire to accelerate to incredible speeds. Such people are dangerous both for themselves and others.
