Can I lose weight with Nordic walking?

Working out with poles on the way to visit.

Going for a run or to a fitness club on January holidays is an ordeal that not everyone can do. We know a more humane and no less effective way. Nordic walking is an easy and accessible sport that will help you in any circumstances. We tell you about it together with the instructor Ekaterina Kaldina.

Sport for pensioners

Walking with poles is still shrouded in a mass of stereotypes. Let’s deal with the most important: originally this sport had nothing to do with grandmothers. Ski imitation is the ancestor of nordicwalking. Few grandmothers could handle such a task. And what we see in city parks at group training sessions for pensioners is just walking with poles, not nordicwalking as it was conceived by Finnish athletes. Such training is actively used by skiers and Finnish special forces as an excellent alternative for practicing endurance. Due to the fact that the poles take the load off the lower limbs and load the muscles of the torso, the walker can noticeably increase the training time, while maintaining the desired heart rate zone.

Nordic walking is without a doubt the fitness of the future and a biohacking tool. The most progressive anti-ageing medicine clinics included Nordic walking training in their rejuvenation programs years ago. In pursuit of youth with sticks in their hands have been seen many times and Russian celebrities: Yulia Vysotskaya, Ksenia Sobchak, Olga Buzova, Polina Kitsenko, Irina Slutskaya, Larisa Verbitskaya, Ekaterina Andreeva, and this is not the whole list.

Nordic walking for weight loss – is it effective?

According to information in the network, for an hour of technical Nordic walking burns up to 700 calories and involves up to 90% of the muscles. In fact, this is more of a myth than a reality. Nordicwalking in proper execution really guarantees excellent results in fat burning and inclusion of the maximum number of muscle fibers. But only Shipulin and Bjørndalen are probably capable of 90%.

The real average figure with proper technical walking is 400-500 calories per hour. Which is also very satisfying: one portion of New Year’s olivier or a piece of fragrant Christmas cake has been worked off.

What other pluses does walking with poles have?

There is another cool bonus of Nordic walking, which few people tell you about. Fast, technical walking with poles is a type of so-called vibration training. The dual hydrodynamic effect resulting from the heel and stick hitting the ground causes the walls of blood vessels to vibrate, and helps the heart pump blood. Increased blood circulation picks up all unnecessary waste products (toxins) and removes them from the body much more actively. As a result, we get normalized metabolism at the cellular level, and happy mitochondria. Add to this the increased oxygenation of the cells – the workouts take place in the fresh air – and you get the perfect fitness with a gentle load and guaranteed results.

Write down the recipe for the most effective holiday walks: sportswear, Nordic walking poles, a couple of laps in the correct nordicwalking technique. And you can sit down at the table again without fear of losing your shape.
