The Beijing Olympics are less than two months away, the athletes are already in the final stages of preparation, and it’s time for us to find out what the national team’s uniform looks like. Today the presentation of the ZASPORT collection, the official outfitter of the Russian Olympic team, took place at the VTB Arena. We tell you what is interesting in the new outfit of the athletes and how the presentation itself took place.
This year the team will also go to Beijing under the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee. The delegation will be one of the most representative at these Games – it will include more than 450 people.
The presentation was opened by an ice show. Five skaters from the junior team – Anastasia Zinina, Kirill Sarnovsky, Sofia Muravyova, Veronika Zhilina, as well as Russian junior champion Sofia Titova – performed on it. The five athletes symbolized the five Olympic rings.
There was Alina Zagitova, who took to the ice together with young figure skater Arina Rotenberg, and Evgeny Plushenko with 8-year-old Gnome Gnomych. Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 was played in the arena – it was approved by the IOC as the musical composition of the ROC team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing.
Afterwards, a large-scale show of the BEIJING 2022 collection started. Its participants were not only professional models, but also athletes themselves. Hockey players from the national team Nina Pirogova and Evgenia Dyupina, Olympic champions and medalists: skier Alexander Legkov, figure skater Ekaterina Bobrova, fencer Sofia Velikaya, as well as the winner of the International Physics Olympiad (unexpectedly!) Artemy Novikov.
Figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva became the ambassador of the new collection.
The main idea is to reflect the uniqueness of the country without using official symbols. Athletes’ dress uniforms and training T-shirts were decorated with a map collected from various geographical objects of the country.
The warm parade kit is a down jacket with a print in the form of the geographical map and a gradient of color. On the inner side of the jacket there is a clue with the image of the objects placed on the outside – these are outlines of Lake Baikal, Sochi, Sakhalin, Kamchatka, Lake Ladoga, Franz Josef Land, Novosibirsk Islands, Severnaya Zemlya, Wrangel Island and Novaya Zemlya.
When developing each Olympic collection, the ZASPORT team takes into account the peculiarities of the culture of the country hosting the Olympics. Of course, the city itself was not left without attention. The inscription BEIJING (Beijing) is on t-shirts, baseball caps and towels. There is also an image of a dragon, the Chinese symbol of wisdom, strength and prosperity. Winter sports pictograms stylized as hieroglyphics also attracted attention.
Anastasia Zadorina
founder of ZASPORT brand
When developing the collection, our team faced a difficult task – to preserve the national identity without using the national symbols of the country. We developed a print consisting of outlines of geographical objects of Russia. We can say that the cities and lakes of our Motherland will envelop the Olympians in warmth.
Also we have already traditionally remembered the country where the Olympics are held: the uniforms have the inscription BEIJING and dragons bringing good luck. We used the color qing, which in China is considered one of the symbols of vital energy.
We paid special attention to the selection of materials to make the athletes comfortable in difficult climatic conditions. The winter collection is much more complicated and detailed than the summer one. We tried to think about the fit of the products, fabrics and fittings as much as possible. I hope that ZASPORT outfit will bring good luck to athletes, because we created it with great love and incredible respect for our Olympians.
Another element that stands out is the Roman numerals XXIV, the sequence number of the Beijing Games. They are on many elements of clothing, including the protective mask. By the way, it is immediately sewn into the hood of the tracksuit.
The main colors of the collection are navy blue, red and qing (bluish-green). The latter in Chinese culture symbolizes energy and vitality.
Stanislav Pozdnyakov
President of the Russian Olympic Committee
A creative approach to equipment design, along with high standards of quality, has traditionally distinguished the uniforms our athletes wear at the Olympic Games. I am impressed by the fact that our colleagues from ZASPORT find interesting solutions that, on the one hand, emphasize the uniqueness and identity of Russia and make the outfits easily recognizable to everyone, and on the other hand, integrate elements of the cultural code of the host country. It is very important that athletes take an active part in the process of creating the outfits, who can advise on certain nuances. Taking this into account, I think that the whole model range will be comfortable and practical.
Technological fabrics are used in the outfit: ski suits, parka and insulated jacket are made of material with water-repellent impregnation, vest is made of thermal welding technology, it provides protection from external moisture and wind. The boots with a heat-resistant membrane inside are also made of water-repellent material.
Hoodies, sweatshirts and T-shirts are made of 100% cotton. The hoodie is made of sherpa (dense warm fabric with fur imitation on the front side) – it keeps you warm and keeps you warm. The gloves have sensors for smartphone screen. One of the main fashion trends of the season – balaclava hat – was also spotted in the collection.
Evgenia Medvedeva
figure skater, ambassador of the ROC team at the Olympics, two-time silver medalist of the Olympic Games.
I like the fact that the collection has bright colors – red, blue; unusual prints, which are very interesting to look at. My favorites are the award suit with the Olympic rings, made in a very delicate color scheme, the Olympics with a sewn-in mask and the fashionable balaclava.
Jonathan Gureiro
figure skater, member of the ROC Athletes’ Commission
I am honored to have been involved in the development of this collection. My colleagues from the Athletes’ Commission and I saw the sketches, discussed the first samples and made our adjustments. It is very pleasant that our wishes are taken into account and our opinion is listened to. I like the final result very much, and I am sure that the ROC team will look stylish and worthy in Beijing.

I have already participated in the Olympic Games in Korea in 2018 and I managed to become a finalist despite my young age. Now I am going to the Olympics in a new status – as a world champion in the big air discipline. I was very lucky to be involved in the development of the ZASPORT collection for the upcoming Beijing Olympics with other athletes, so we contributed to it. The collection really turned out the way we wanted, now I’ve seen it in person I’m very impressed and I can’t wait to wear it!
Participants of the Beijing Games and members of the delegation will receive kits with 68 pieces of equipment.
