We don’t really care where and how you read our selection, but we’re sure you’ll find something suitable for you here.

Chicken broth for the soul. Re-create yourself

Book in the online bookstore

Nothing motivates like real-life success stories. And it does not matter what we are talking about: financial well-being, healthy lifestyle or some other personal achievements. No trainings and workshops can give such a push forward as non-fictional biographies of other people who have succeeded! After all, when you see how many people were able to change themselves and their world, wakes up faith in their own strength.

100 stories about the fight against excess weight in the book told by ordinary people: here is everything they have experienced, trying to bring themselves into shape. Little motivational secrets from other people’s lives have already helped millions of people around the world to make a step towards a healthy, fit and beautiful body.

You can move toward it gradually, in small steps, like Douglas Brown. He was denied life insurance because he was 40 pounds overweight. This forced him to take action. He started simple: every day he climbed the stairs to the fourth floor to his workplace. Gradually, he was able to make some serious changes in his diet and add exercise to it, so now his health and well-being are much better than when he started.

It is possible to stumble and indulge your weaknesses, like Rebecca Hill. She once participated in a videotaped fitness exercise class held in Hawaii. The other participants, fit and slim, were health advocates, and Rebecca was terribly embarrassed about ordering cheeseburgers for her room in the evenings. So in the morning, she would quietly slip the empty tray to other people’s doors.
And always afterward – getting back “in a rut,” realizing her own mistakes and forgiving them, like Kimberly Hatmacher. She describes losing ten pounds over the past couple of years: “I set myself very modest goals each time, and this helped me to move forward smoothly, without a spurt, and to win small victories regularly over time.
Onward to victories over yourself!

Soccer in comics

Book in the online store

“Championship of Contrasts” – that’s how the foreign media dubbed the past World Cup. “It tore the textbook of soccer tradition in two when some of the favorites – Brazil, Germany, Spain and Argentina – crashed out at an early stage,” writes CNBC. To understand the nature and magnitude of recent events, it’s useful to go back to the beginning and trace exactly how soccer became the phenomenal force that temporarily united people from around the world and made them forget about politics? “Football in Comics” – these are stories of heroes and villains, victories and defeats, won trophies and stolen cups, about leaders – both brilliant and untalented. It is because of them that soccer is as we know it.
Told through comics in the spirit of the 90s, the soccer story will amaze you as much as the final match between France and Croatia!

Here you will find answers to questions you never thought to ask before: what happened to Garrincha’s dog? Why hasn’t Peter Beardsley changed his hair in over 30 years? What would the world be like if Geoffrey Hurst’s goal had been invalidated? How much fun would you have had spending a weekend in a motorhome with Roy Keane? Why have China and Japan not done well with soccer?
Discover the world of soccer from an unexpected side!

45 Shades of Green

Book at the online bookstore.

Who are these people who choose coconut milk over cow’s milk, prefer quinoa burger over steak, and start their mornings with a kiwi and avocado smoothie? Where do they get their protein? How are their hemoglobin levels? Do their skin and hair suffer from vitamin deficiencies? Alya Samokhina, a vegetarian with 13 years of experience, a master chef of vegan cafes and restaurants and the author of the bestselling book “Go Green”, answers these complex questions. ⠀ She calls her book “a compendium of hügge recipes” for vegans. There are 40 dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with stunning photos that are impossible to resist. You won’t notice you’re already donning an apron in the kitchen and making smoothie ball, tofu quiche, pumpkin polenta with eggplant, and key lime cheesecake all at the same time.

Alya also writes what foods a vegetarian can find protein, collagen, iron and vitamins in, what the “color plate rule” is and publishes a list of the 50 foods most rich in protein – from soy and peanuts to banana and yams.

But that’s beside the point. A lycée from Ali Samokhina about veganism as a way of life can answer the question of all meat-eaters who find themselves in a difficult life situation. What to do if your friend declared himself a vegan and started systematically buying up all the green salad from the nearest supermarket?

FOODBALL.

Book in the online store

In continuation of the theme of the championship we will tell you about another novelty.
While the Russian national team was preparing to win, chefs in restaurants in eleven soccer capitals trained to shine with traditional Russian bakery hospitality. After all, it depended on them, what foreign fans remembered the Russian cuisine.

A team of professional culinary experts gathered the most spectacular recipes from all over the country into a unique compilation: “FOODball. A culinary journey through 11 soccer capitals of Russia”.

So what do foreigners talk about at home, nostalgically recalling Russian specialties? And what should future guests of our country try?

In Moscow, of course, borscht and pancakes with caviar. And for breakfast – cheesecakes. In St. Petersburg – beef stroganoff and fried smelt. In the morning, you can have pyshchki. In Volgograd you should appreciate watermelon honey and pikeperch in batter. In Sochi the indispensable point of the program is lamb kebab and chebureks. In Kazan there is a place to go wild in the gastronomic plan, starting with echpochmaks. In Yekaterinburg, the main culinary event may become Neft dumplings with dill mousse and dumplings with oven potatoes and Carbonara sauce.

So, ready to jump on the train and go on a culinary journey? Take it with us!

Run Forever: Your Complete Guide to Healthy Lifetime Running

Electronic version on Amazon

Review by Renat Shagabudtinova, author of the telegram channel “Run Simply”:“The book is called “Run Forever”, and it’s not a pretty turn of phrase: Amby Burfoot really wants the reader to be able to enjoy running for a lifetime and without injuries.

The book is very easy to read due to the structure (short chapters on different topics) and the style of presentation (friendly and accessible).

No wonder – Berfoot not only won the Boston Marathon (that is, he knows what he’s writing about), but also started his way of popularizing sports with a school wall newspaper, and then worked for many years in the best running magazine Runner’s World. Oh, and his book isn’t his first.

The book has a wonderful plan for those who are just starting to run – it suggests to alternate running with walking and gradually reach 30 minutes of continuous running. A translation of the plan and recommendations on how to implement it is available on the Run Simple channel. There are also recommendations on other topics that usually bother beginners: from shoes to nutrition.

A very good book for beginners in running – and not only for beginners.”

Sports Nutrition for Professionals and Amateurs. A complete guide

Book in the publisher’s online store

Review from Renat Shagabudtinov, author of the telegram channel “Run Simply”: “For a long time in Russia there were no translated systematic and quality books on sports nutrition written by experts. And in August 2018, two books were published by different publishers at once! This one and the next one in this selection.

A very useful and informative book about nutrition, which may be of interest not only to athletes.

The book answers most questions and explains everything in great detail. There are no extremes, fanaticism and there are recommendations for adherents of different diets, a balanced scientific approach”.

The publication consists of four parts:
1. Everyday healthy eating for active people: breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks; carbohydrates, proteins, drinking.
2. Nutrition before, after and during training. Supplements, specialty sports nutrition.
3. Weight. Weight gain, overweight, diets.
4. Recipes (breakfasts, pasta/rice, vegetables and salads, poultry, meat, beans and tofu, fish and seafood, drinks and smoothies).

An important feature of the book is the large number of statistical tables with very useful information.

For example: calcium requirements by age/sex; protein and calorie content of pasta/rice/quinoa; calcium content of dairy products, vegetables, cereals; nutritional value in popular breakfast cereals; 500-calorie breakfast options; comparison of milk and sports drinks in terms of minerals and protein; comparison of the most popular sports bars.

Nutrition in Endurance Sports. Everything a runner, swimmer, cyclist and triathlete needs to know

Book in the publisher’s online store

Excerpt from the book. The importance of iron
Excerpt from the book. Training and competing in the heat
Excerpt from the book. How to understand sugars

Review from Renat Shagabudtinov, author of the “Run Simply” telegram channel:“Another novelty on sports nutrition from an expert with vast experience. This book has a slightly narrower specialization than the previous one – it is for everyone who is involved in endurance sports (i.e. running, swimming, cycling, triathlon, adventure racing).
This is a systematic guide. It has both the basics and specialized issues.

Common issues include fluid intake, essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes, weight loss and muscle gain, and ergogenic supplements – their safety and effects.

The second half of the book focuses on individual sports and specialty issues. Swimming, running, triathlon and cycling are too different for there to be one ready-made, one-size-fits-all nutrition plan, so Monique Ryan looks at the specifics of each sport.
There are also tips for special cases – for young and old athletes, vegetarians and diabetics, pregnant girls.

The recommendations are examined using examples of real athletes, including amateurs – what difficulties and issues they face, how they solve problems and plan nutrition during training and competition.”

How badly do you want it? The psychology of mind over body superiority

The book is in the publisher’s online store

Article based on the book: The Psychology of Competition

Review by Renat Shagabudtinov, author of the “Run Simply” telegram channel:“A great book on sports psychology that you can’t get away from. It is built on the stories of elite athletes, their mistakes and lessons.

The reading translates quite well into application if necessary.
For example, Alyssa McCaig, a professional runner, lost positions on the score sheet several times at the end of crucial races. Although afterwards she could feel not 100% exhausted or even very tired. She once made the decision to match the ongoing physical suffering at a race with the emotional suffering after unsuccessful races, which helped her perform better at critical moments and improve her results.”

Interesting quote from the book:

“Any athlete who forces himself or herself to push his or her previous limits of endurance in an effort to achieve more realizes this. There is nothing like the feeling of deliberately pushing yourself to the point where you are ready to give up, and yet you don’t. Those moments of “brutal reality,” as Mark Allen calls them, when something inside you asks: “How badly do you want this?” – inner barriers are removed and you reveal a part of yourself that is only exposed at the most critical moments. And when your answer makes you fight on, you emerge from the ordeal with a new knowledge of yourself and a self-respect that no amount of money can buy.

In these moments of overcoming harsh reality, athletes discover not only reasons to keep fighting, but also ways to do so: motivation (the why) and adaptive skills (the how) that they can return to again and again when faced with the temptation to back down or give up. And both answers to the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ will be purely personal, unique to each athlete.”
