Mulled wine for mood: unusual recipes of warming drink

If you’re not in a New Year’s mood yet, then you haven’t tried mulled wine. This drink has a warming and soothing effect, and since it is traditionally drunk in winter, we guarantee you an instant holiday feeling. If for some reason you don’t really like mulled wine, or maybe you’ve had enough of it, try the recipes in our selection. We are sure that one of them will be perfect for you to watch a New Year’s movie in a cozy company!

Mulled wine with white wine

Składniki:

  • A bottle of red wine (750 milliliters);
  • 5 tbsp. brandy;
  • 120 g. honey (or sugar);
  • medium orange;
  • 8 to 10 cloves;
  • 3 cinnamon sticks;
  • 2 teaspoons of ginger.

Peel the orange. Cut the ginger into 8 to 10 small pieces. If you don’t have whole ginger, you can substitute two teaspoons of ground ginger. Add all the ingredients to a large saucepan. Slowly warm everything over low to medium heat for 20-25 minutes. Avoid boiling.

Stir occasionally to make sure the honey or sugar is completely dissolved. When the wine is boiling and all ingredients have infused, it’s ready to serve.

Cranberry mulled wine

Składniki:

  • A bottle of red wine (about 750 ml.);
  • 500 ml of cranberry juice;
  • 100 ml. orange juice;
  • 150 g. fresh cranberries;
  • 3 tangerines;
  • 3 anise stars;
  • 3 cinnamon sticks;
  • vanilla pod;
  • 5 cloves;
  • 100 g. brown sugar.

Peel the mandarins and cut into slices. Place all the ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan and heat to boiling. Let everything infuse for about 20 minutes over low heat, until the cranberries are soft and starting to burst.

Mulled wine “More Spice!”

Składniki:

  • A bottle of red dry wine (750 ml);
  • 100 ml. water;
  • 1/2 of a medium-sized orange;
  • 50 g. granulated sugar;
  • 20 cloves;
  • 2 cinnamon sticks;
  • 2 star anise.

Using a vegetable peeler, scrape the zest off the orange in wide strips. From the orange, then squeeze out the juice and set aside.

Combine the water and sugar in a large saucepan and simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved. Reduce the heat and add the cloves, cinnamon, star anise, zest and orange juice. Cook over low heat for about a minute until a flavorful syrup forms.

Reduce the heat and add the wine. Allow the drink to simmer for 20 minutes to an hour. Make sure it does not boil over. When the drink is ready, garnish the top with the remaining orange zest.

French-style coffee mulled wine

Składniki:

  • 200 ml of red wine;
  • espresso coffee
  • cinnamon stick;
  • ginger slices;
  • orange slices;
  • tbsp. sugar.

To prepare the drink, in a large saucepan add red dry, then pour the coffee into it. Pour all the ingredients into the resulting mixture, optionally you can add cardamom, cloves or anise.
If you don’t have ginger root on hand, you can add half a teaspoon of ground ginger. Simmer everything on low heat for 20-30 minutes.

Pink apple mulled wine

Składniki:

  • A bottle of rose wine;
  • 200 g. sugar;
  • 200 gr. apples;
  • 15-20 black pepper peas;
  • 2 cinnamon sticks;
  • 10 g. cloves;
  • lemon.

Cut the apples into cubes. Mix all ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and remove the mixture from the heat. Let it infuse for another 10-15 minutes so that the apples soak up the wine and give up their juice.

Advice from “Championship”: when preparing mulled wine, it is better not to save on wine. Otherwise, instead of a pleasant and warming effect, you will have a headache, perhaps even the next day.
