Honest review: Garmin Forerunner 935 smart watch

Not so long ago in our “Honest Review” section we managed to test one of the most popular watches among runners and triathletes, the Garmin Forerunner 935. This gadget can hardly be called budget, and therefore in our review we would like to focus on the uniqueness of those features that distinguish the watch from the competition, but, of course, in addition to this we will also consider all the basic options, design and degree of comfort from the daily wear of “Garmin”.

For whom: the model is designed for those who can’t imagine their life without daily workouts in the gym or pool, as well as for professional athletes. If your goal is to constantly improve your sports performance, then the “stuffing” of the watch will help you in this. Based on the parameters, many of which can be read in parallel and independently of each other, you will be able to make adjustments to your training plan and track your progress in time.

When to buy: When you know you’re ready for a gadget that won’t just sit on a shelf in a beautiful package, but will accompany you 24/7. Thanks to its organic design, classic black display and interchangeable straps, the watch will transform to any dress code.

What you need to be ready for: girls can try to consider other models from the line if the dial seems too large.

Price: from 60,000 to 67,000 rubles. I assume that on the eve of the New Year it will be possible to find this very model with a big discount.

What’s inside?

Key features and interesting functionality

● Automatic synchronization of data with your computer.

● Synchronization and uploading of data to Garmin Connect.

Forerunner 935 running/triathlon watch automatically synchronizes with Garmin Connect, a free online sports community where you can monitor your progress, track your score.

● Smart watch mode up to 2 weeks without recharging (by the way, in my opinion, this is one of the strongest arguments in favor of Garmin watches, during the three weeks of the test I charged them once, which means that you almost never take them off your hand and the chances of putting the gadget in a long box after recharging are significantly reduced).

● The ability to track your heart rate throughout the day and do a number of self-tests based on that (see below).

Highly sensitive GPS receiver and a built-in barometer to help you correctly determine altitude differences (an indispensable thing for trail-riding enthusiasts).

● Virtual Partner function, which allows you to train with an invisible opponent.

● Ability to create and download your own training plans and train according to them.

● Ability to measure your paddling power and track your progress while training in the pool.

● Waterproof.

Training Modes

The Forerunner 935 supports profiles for different activities, which means that both distance and calories burned will be counted correctly:

● Running (indoor/outdoor)
● bicycling (indoor/outdoor)
Swimming (pool/open water)
● triathlon
● cross-country skiing
rowing
● trailrunning
hiking
walking
● strength training.

This is useful: for duathlon and triathlon, the device has an “auto multisport” function that allows you to switch from one sport to another at the touch of a button.

Health-conscious

Heart rate is tracked throughout the day, you can always find data for the last 4 hours on the watch monitor in the form of a graph, in the app you can download detailed statistics for the day, week and even month.

To make sure the data is as correct as possible, the watch comes with three additional heart rate monitors (Tri/Run/Swim) that can be worn both during training and at rest for more accurate data measurement.

With the optional heart rate monitor, watch and app, you can perform two interesting tests on your own: the Anaerobic Threshold Test and the HRV (Heart Rate Variability) Stress Test.

Theanaerobic threshold test – heart rate and power will record the maximum effortan athlete can sustain while the body is able to rid itself of lactic acid in the muscles

HRV stress test – calculated by analyzing the duration of intervals between successive heartbeats. It is a method of analyzing the activity of the autonomous nervous system. Its role as a predictor of mortality after acute myocardial infarction has been identified.

Bottom line of the review: worth buying or not?

In my opinion, everyone should make this decision for themselves. If you have involved yourself in a sporting adventure called “Preparing for IRONMAN” or the Moscow Marathon, the watch should already be on your hand.

Because in addition to timely adjustment of your training plan, this gadget will help you track changes directly related to your health, sleep quality, heart rhythms, etc. Surely all of you will agree that only a person with iron health can conquer the distance of the most difficult triathlon race or the cherished 42 km to the finish line. I would not recommend this gadget to people who really need only a heart rate monitor, a pedometer and an ordinary watch. In this case, I would suggest starting with a more simplified model of smart watches or fitness bracelets Garmin, and then, really experiencing the need to expand the functionality, go to Forerunner 935.

Bottom line: the editorial team recommends it.
