Legendary Sylvester Stallone: training and motivation

Sylvester Stallone

How to quickly gain weight and “dry up”? Secrets of the actor’s preparation for the roles of Rocky and Rimbaud.

Year after year, the training of the legendary Sylvester Stallone was modified in order to adjust to certain roles and acting tasks. One thing remained unchanged: often in the form needed to come in the shortest possible time. Therefore, most of the training of the artist was held at an increased pace. For the roles of Rocky and Rambo Stallone included in his training heavy loads recommended for professional bodybuilders, sat on a diet high in protein and learned to understand the sports supplements.

Rocky’s physique appeared in the actor at the time when Sylvester Stallone won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1976. However, even in his 70s Stallone does not leave training in the gym and looks great.

Training plans, which adhered to the actor, always strikingly different from each other. When he wanted to look slimmer, as in Rocky III, he used metabolic conditioning schemes, aka metcon (“metcon” is not just a set of exercises to be done as fast as you can at all. You should have a reasonable and structured number of approaches, reps, and rest that will get your metabolism going in the right way. And that means losing excess weight and leaning out your body quickly). When he wanted to look like Rocky Bolboa, he incorporated traditional bodybuilding workouts into his program at intervals of six days a week.

When reporters asked him what plan he follows to train and where he draws information on how to get a beautiful body, Sylvester Stallone said:

– All I wanted to do was look like Tarzan – chilly, strong and agile like a cat. So I forgot about gaining mass and focused on the quality of my muscles. Then I started working with heavy weights in hardcore mode, training twice a day.

In Sylvester Stallone’s preparation for the second part of the movie Rocky, he was assisted by a great expert in his field, Mr. Olympia trainer Franco Columbu. In one of his interviews, Franco Columbu admitted:

“Sly wanted to train to the fullest, as if he was preparing for some kind of competition. Two workouts a day, six days a week. I had to oversee the whole process personally so that he ended up in the best physical shape of his life.”

Stallone continued to use Columbu as a trainer throughout the “Rambo” and “Rocky” movies.

Franco Columbu brought into the training of Sylvester Stallone the very exercises that he performed himself to prepare for various contests and competitions. And this meant that the actor had to take the same weight used by his professional trainer. At first, Stallone could not always do the right number of repetitions, but he always had a goal: to become even better than he is now.
