A cup of coffee for breakfast, heartburn for lunch: why you shouldn’t start your morning with caffeine?

In today’s frantic pace of life, it often happens that there is no time left for a full breakfast, and instead – a cup of coffee or strong tea. It would seem, why not? After all, it is fast, drinks invigorate and give a charge of energy for the whole day. In addition, coffee is not bad to satisfy hunger. But how safe is such a substitute? Nutriciologist Anna Berseneva helped to understand this question.

Is it possible to drink tea or coffee on an empty stomach?

No, such drinks are better to drink about an hour and a half after a meal, advises nutriciologist. The exception – herbal teas, they can also be drunk on an empty stomach.

Caffeine-containing drinks have an aggressive effect on the stomach, irritate its walls and promote the production of a large number of enzyme juices. If this happens on a regular basis, digestion will slow down. Also, the excess acid that the stomach will secrete can lead to heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome or even ulcers.

Consumption of coffee and tea on an empty stomach can cause anxiety, irritability and depression, as caffeine interferes with the production of serotonin – the hormone of calmness and joy, and, conversely, contributes to an increase in the level of stress hormones.

It turns out that, in addition to the negative effect on the physical state of the body, drinks containing caffeine, negatively affect mental health.

And to lose weight?

Even in this case, drinking coffee and tea on an empty stomach is not worth it. Although regular consumption of coffee on an empty stomach suppresses appetite and gives a feeling of satiety, do not forget that it can do more harm than good. In this case, the end should not justify the means, and the price for a beautiful figure should not be health.

For weight loss purposes, you can drink coffee such as espresso (a small mug of strong black coffee). Caffeine acts as a catalyst that helps better digest food, for example, a dense lunch. But again, you should not drink it on an empty stomach.

With what drinks is better to start the day?

It is best to start with water – warm or hot, from 38 to 50 degrees. This is how the “internal shower” is performed. Here you can draw an analogy with dirty dishes, which we wash with hot water, so that the dirt better comes off. It is the same with the body – we organize ourselves such a “hot shower” to cleanse the body and start all important metabolic processes.

You can drink water with lemon, with mint or without anything – it all depends on how your body perceives it (if there is no heartburn and problems with the level of acidity) and how you like it better.
