Why do we gain weight overnight?

Andrei: Weight fluctuations are normal. And it does not directly relate to fat gain. Therefore, it makes no sense to worry. I recommend weighing yourself no more than once a week and making sure to measure your waist, then it is a relevant indicator of how your body composition is changing. I don’t see any reason to invent some strategy to lose weight drastically in the morning. And daily fluctuations can be caused by so many things.

Salty foods

Excess salt intake retains fluid in the body. So if in the evening you ate fish or a pack of chips, do not be surprised by an extra kilogram on the scale. To avoid water retention, try to avoid salty foods during dinner.

Large amounts of carbohydrates

Sugar, like salt, retains fluid and leads to “extra” pounds. Eating a lot of sweets in a day can affect your morning weight, especially if your diet was poor in carbohydrates the previous few days. To store 1 glycogen, the body needs three times as much water.

Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages lead to dehydration, which also retains fluid in the body. If you don’t want to wake up the next morning with puffiness and extra pounds, it’s worth giving up alcohol the day before.

Premenstrual syndrome

Women start gaining “water” weight about five days before the start of the cycle. Fluid retention in the body is not durable, but extra pounds on the scale are not excluded. Do not worry about it, because after a few days the fluid will go away, and the weight will come back to normal.

Undigested food

Intolerance to foods such as eggs, gluten, soy, milk, can cause abdominal bloating and fluid retention, especially in the intestines. If you feel a heaviness in the stomach and notice extra weight in the morning, it is likely that your body was not able to digest last night’s dinner. To prevent this from happening, you should consult a doctor and exclude certain foods from your diet.

Strict diet

If after strict restrictions in food you abruptly return to unhealthy food, your body can begin to actively accumulate available fat. To avoid this, you should carefully choose the diet you want to follow, and it is better to consult with specialists.
