“A racquet will cost 15,000 rubles.” How much does it cost to give a child to big tennis?

Tennis is called an elite sport. In Russia it is one of the most popular and besides, since 1896 (with a break from 1924 to 1988) it has been included in the program of the Summer Olympic Games.

Classes help to develop endurance and strengthen muscles, and this is not the only reason why parents give their children to such a section. Big tennis is also relatively safe, as there is no direct contact with other players. This means that the chance of injury is much lower.

We continue our text series about prices for children’s sections. Today we have a mom of a tennis player from Moscow sharing her experience with us.

Elena Istyagina-Eliseeva

Tennis player’s mother, deputy chairman of the Commission of the Russian Federation Public Opinion Commission, scientific director of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.

We are a sporty family, so we wanted to instill in our child a love of activity from childhood. When our daughter Alexandra was two years old, she started gymnastics. Later, we showed her to see if she had a specialization in gymnastics. We chose another direction – swimming, but Sasha was not taken into the main group. We did not grieve for long. A colleague from the Russian Tennis Federation suggested that we show our daughter to their specialists. It turned out that her physical data are perfect for this sport, and most importantly, the child likes it. Now she is nine years old, and she still trains on the court.

Clothes

In matters of uniforms, we adhere to the rule that you should not buy branded things for training. After all, clothes wear out quickly, and the child is constantly growing. The expense is always large, so we buy ordinary sports equipment. For example, in a simple store one element (skirt/shorts/shirt) will cost 500-700 rubles, and in branded will be from 2.5 thousand.

Footwear

Of the equipment, the biggest item of expenditure is sneakers. On them we do not spare money, because it is about safety and performance of the daughter. Tennis involves short, explosive movements and ankle injuries are a common problem. Shoes cost us 10,000 rubles.

Also, Sasha complained that her muscle pulls when moving. To solve this problem, we also ordered sports insoles, which are additionally inserted inside the shoes. They are made to individual order. The cost is almost the same as for sneakers. You can also choose universal insoles, they will cost much cheaper. But for us, the health factor is above all.

Racket

For a child will cost an average of 12-15 thousand rubles. They are ranked according to different parameters, but the main ones are height and weight. As these values change, it will be necessary to change the inventory.

The costs include the tightening of the strings: it should be done about once every two months. The price is 1.5 thousand rubles. It is also necessary to update the winding on the handle as it wears out. It is important to do this, otherwise the palms will quickly rub off. On marketplaces there are options from 500 rubles.

Rackets are stored in cases or bags. They can cost differently, starting from 1.3 thousand rubles and ending with 15 thousand.

Tennis ball

As a rule, tennis balls are provided by the school. But it happens that parents discount 3 thousand rubles a month. For this amount, the coach buys a new batch in bulk.

Training and participation in tournaments

My daughter is engaged in SDYUSHOR Olympic reserve under the authority of Moskomsport. We were lucky to get a budget place. Here they train according to the standards of sports training. Everything a child needs, he gets for free. Why? As a promising athlete, the state pays everything in advance. However, even this does not cover all modern realities.

For example, here you can enroll in school from the age of seven, but children start practicing much earlier. As a rule, at the age of four, and sometimes at the age of three.

But the main thing is that young athletes need more physical training, sparring and additional training hours. Parents have to pay for them. And often to supplement everything that coaches need. The standard is six to eight hours of training per week, but in reality it turns out to be 13-14. It is this point that is the biggest expense. One lesson costs us inexpensively by tennis standards – from 2-2,5 thousand rubles. For comparison, private players pay more than 5 thousand rubles for one lesson. At least we buy four hours a week.

For competitive practice it is important to participate in commercial tournaments. This will cost 2.5-3 thousand roubles. In Moscow, they take place almost every weekend.

Big tennis is an expensive pleasure, but it’s worth it. The child’s character is tempered, vision is improved, reaction and motor skills are developed, and muscles are strengthened. An individual sport will help develop independence and ease of decision making. Even if your kid does not turn out to be Marat Safin, Maria Sharapova or Daniil Medvedev, the qualities developed will be very useful in adulthood.
