Hello, 2018: the editorial board’s sports goals for next year

Nothing human is alien to our editorial staff, which means that, according to a good tradition, we should summarize the results at the end of the year. In 2017, we had many goals and objectives, but the main thing is that in 2017 we were able to decide on the format in which we work. It is important for us not to just sit on the other side of the screen and remain couch critics who know everything about everything, but for some reason do nothing: neither triathlons nor marathons, what’s more, they can’t even lose weight. That’s why April is the beginning of not only the history of our section, but also the history of our personal victories and challenges. Next year, we will try to dive even deeper into researching those issues that our readers are interested in.

We know for sure that our readers are not timid and that if you motivate them well, they will run a half-marathon or a cycling race and put the whole family on skis. We also decided not to stay aside and formulated ambitious sports goals for the next year.

Anna Burenkova, curator of the “Runningsubsection:
Everything goes according to plan – this is not about me. So while I am not one hundred percent sure of anything, I will only name my main running dreams for 2018. After running (and partially passing) the Mad Fox Ultra Trail, I realized how much I still have to work and work on myself.

I can improve endlessly, but now I feel like I’m only doing a fraction of what my physical data allows, so I need to get rid of self-pity. If in Rostov I managed 40 km, then in summer I want to run, without breaking a step, all 50 km of the trail in Suzdal! After this test I dream to conquer the marathon distance in September. Perhaps, if I prepare well, I will take part in the Wings for Life race, in which the finish line will be the mark of the distance at which the catcher car will catch up with you.

The new year must be productive!

Anastasia Tsymbarevich, Lifestyle photographer:
1. I promise myself that I will start kickboxing next year, to tighten myself up and become a better person.
2. I promise myself to run a 5km race.

3. To lose 5 kilograms, especially to work on the lower part of the abs.

Olga Sitnikova, journalist, correspondent of Lifestyle section:
Well, that’s it. It seems that it is time to summarize the results of the passing year and prepare to meet the new one. Many of us are probably used to setting ourselves certain goals for the next year. But for me the word “goal” sounds somehow too serious and firm. A goal is something very important and responsible. It’s a pressure. I want to enjoy my upcoming achievements, so let’s call them not goals, but strong desires (smiles). In the new year, I decided to pay attention to running. It’s high time to start running by myself in the park, in the woods or at the stadium. I want to run a half marathon to consolidate the result. I also want to pay attention to my diet and accustom myself to the right food so that I love it. I’d love to share new knowledge and recipes with you in my nutrition column.

All in all, these and some other smaller desires are one path to a healthy lifestyle. I sincerely believe it will all work out. Who’s with me?

Christina Roppert, journalist, Lifestyle correspondent:
I decided to set myself very clear goals and formulate them in the form of a checklist. I like to mark off the tasks I’ve accomplished!
Run my first race (minimum 5km).
Lose 5 kg and stabilize my weight.
Get on twine and get my stretching in order.
Try to go to yoga once (I’ve never been to yoga in my life, so I’ll be sure to tell you about my beginner’s experience).
Buy cool new sneakers (this can also be considered a sports goal, right?).

Maya Kozlovtseva, Lifestyle editor:
Among my girls in the editorial team, as you may have noticed, this year it is very fashionable to run and lose 5 kg, they gave it out, by the way, separately from each other and without even colluding. As for me, my sports goals for 2018:

22.05.18 – Moscow Half Marathon
02.06.18 – Sprint triathlon
22.09.18 – Olympic triathlon.

Everything is as clear as possible, even with the dates, so as not to deviate a single step. But probably even more global and meaningful for me is the goal to exercise regularly. It’s what gives me strength and helps me feel productive. At the beginning of 2017, everything was literally falling out of my hands, my health was going to hell, and my gym membership had been gathering dust in my closet for so long that it was impossible to even find it. Doctors gave me chronic diagnoses, I was upset, sad and continued to do nothing. And then sport came into my life, regular sport: races, training camps, my first road bike ride, two 10 km distances at the Moscow Marathon, trail running, training camps in the mountains and finally a conscious choice of triathlon. At first it was a necessity and a job, then it became a meaningful part of my life. In 2018, I want to tell you even more about how sport and exercise can change your life, make you more productive and happier!

Keep sharing your thoughts with us, tell us what you’re interested in, ask questions and share your sports plans. The section comes to life when, on either side of the usual five thousand character text, the training and journey to your dreams begins.

Celebrate the beginning of this year with your nearest and dearest. Thank you for inspiring us! There is incredible power hidden in movement and constant work on yourself, we wish everyone to unlock it in the coming year.

See you in 2018.
