How to raise a motivated and successful child. 6 tips from a coach

Any normal parent wants their child to excel. It’s a natural desire. To make it come true, adults are ready to do a lot. Some may even sacrifice their own lives, just so that the future of their children would turn out in the best possible way. Alas, these feats do not always lead to the desired results.

Often the reason for the collapse of hopes – lack of motivation. The child simply does not want to reach any peaks – neither in sports, nor in studies. He does not understand why he needs it, and therefore has no resource for the realization of parental plans. What to do in this situation?

First of all, try to hear your child. Then you will need to teach him patience and set a good personal example.

Determination is not an inborn character trait, but a skill. It can be formed with some effort and enough time. Success in achieving a goal depends on key points:

  • Having a conscious desire;
  • patience;
  • the ability to analyze actions;
  • the skill of concentration and self-organization.

How to work with each of these points, so that the chances of realizing your dream of your child’s future increase dramatically?

Help to realize desires

How often do we talk a child into doing what’s best for us without taking their personal desires into account? Think back to a couple of episodes right now. For example, how you insisted on the wrong pair of shoes because you didn’t like the color.

Ask your child questions and consider his choices. In this way, you will be able to start the process of realizing desires. The child will realize that they are meaningful.

Teach patience

Patience is not just about bearing hardship with clenched teeth. It is more important to teach the child to see what all these efforts are for. The most effective tool for forming this quality – sports. The experience of overcoming difficulties that athletes gain helps them to be resilient in different life situations.

Parents can do their part by working on their child’s mindfulness. Remind him or her of what all the difficulties are for. Explain that any achievement takes time.

Make plans together

Once there is an understanding of desires, the fun part begins – the journey to the goal. Make a plan of action together with your child. Help him or her understand what needs to be done to realize it.

For example, we have a goal – to learn to do ten push-ups by the end of the month. Write down a training schedule and the results that can be achieved by sticking to the schedule. Remind the child of the plan and ask questions. An adult’s involvement in this process is essential.

Work on concentration

Unfortunately, the number of children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has increased in recent years. Kids have a hard time concentrating on anything for long periods of time. You could say that this is the scourge of our time.

How were these things dealt with in the days of our grandparents? They involved children in activities that developed fine motor skills. Back then, it was something like picking buckwheat with their hands. Today, you can find something more exciting. Like doing jigsaw puzzles.

Develop self-confidence

We need time to learn to trust another person. It also takes time to develop confidence in your own abilities. External reinforcement is also important. No one will trust a talker who breaks his word.

Unkept promises to oneself are an undermining of confidence in oneself. “Muscle” confidence grows stronger with each realized goal. The rule of thumb here is: from small to bigger. If we are talking about sports, then you should start with the minimum load and gradually increase it. For example, just five squats in the morning.

Don’t forget to explain to your child why it’s necessary and get his or her informed consent. Anything that you see a real benefit in and that is a little more effort compared to what was before will do. And it’s imperative that you record and reward success.

Set a good example

To develop motivation and determination in a small person, you need the support and patience of adults. And also your own example. Children copy our unconscious behaviors. If you talk about the importance of sports, but you prefer the gym to the TV, the positive effect of your words will not be.

Can not be an example yourself? Then find a professional – a coach in the sports section. He will inspire you to achieve. But this does not mean that you can delegate your authority and self-distract. Contact should not be lost in any case. It is important to be genuinely interested in the affairs of children. This will be the real contribution to their future.
