How did American Matt Clement lose 96 pounds?

Matt Clement decided to make drastic changes after he was hospitalized.

When Matt Clement, an average office worker from North Carolina, passed over 30, the arrow on the scale reached the mark of 190 kg. He was having trouble sleeping – he was only getting 2-3 hours of sleep, and climbing stairs was the only physical activity on his schedule.

First his joints began to creak, then he started having problems with his legs. Eventually, Matt ended up in the hospital because of a kidney stone – due to his heavy weight, doctors had to perform surgery to get rid of the problem. That’s when Clement decided that an urgent lifestyle change was needed. Over the next two years, he lost weight by more than 90 kg and pumped up his muscles. How did he do it?

Lost 20 kg, gained 30 kg: the first attempts to lose weight and ketodieta

Throughout his life, Matt now and then sat down on a diet. But because of the severe restrictions quickly broke down and often gained even more weight. According to him, junk food helped him to distract himself from everyday problems. The man turned to the help of cheatmilas, as a rule, after a bad day at work – stress became an excuse to indulge himself.

When Clement seriously thought about losing weight, his boss advised him to pay attention to ketodiet – low in carbohydrates and high in fat. To reduce the risk of breakdowns, Matt decided to give up chitmiles altogether. “During breakdowns, the things I craved most often were pizza, donuts, and ice cream. I found keto-alternatives for them, and ‘unloading’ days became unnecessary for me,” he explains in an interview. Changes in diet helped the American to get rid of 35 kg.

From walking and running to Crossfit: gradual increase in load

Matt introduced physical activity into his routine slowly and very carefully. Having lost weight to 150 kg, he was still restricted in his movements and could not immediately start intensive training. He started with 15-minute bike rides on the exercise machine three times a week. Gradually he added walking to this, and then he started jogging. Gradually the distance and load increased, and soon Clement lost another 57 kg.

The man wanted his workouts to become more intense – he started doing Crossfit. “I wanted not only to build muscle, but in general to improve my physical shape. So for the next six months I actively trained and started running trails,” says Matt.
Increasing the workload, Clement also changed his diet plan: he added collagen-containing foods to his diet and favored foods that gave him more energy.

In two and a half years, the man managed to lose weight to 94 kg – he got rid of more than half of the original weight. According to Matt, in his 40s, he is in better shape than ever before. “I’m capable of more now. And it’s never too late to change. If I can do it, so can you – no matter what stage you’re at,” Clement said.
