Juicy and sweet peach is one of the symbols of summer. The fruit reaches its maximum ripeness in late July or early August. It was first cultivated in China several centuries before Christ. Later it appeared in Persia, from where Alexander the Great brought it to Greece. Gradually, the product became loved all over the world.

Useful properties of peaches

The value of the peach lies not only in the taste, but also in the high content of vitamins and trace elements. The fruit is rich in vitamin A, responsible for preserving the youthfulness of the skin, eye health and tissue regeneration.

Vitamin C helps to strengthen immunity, collagen production and smooth wrinkles. Peach is good for healthy hair, skin and nails due to its vitamin E content. B vitamins in combination with magnesium improve brain function, relieve anxiety, nervous tension.

The fruit is useful for elderly people, especially women. Due to the high content of vitamin K, as well as calcium and phosphorus, it prevents the development of osteoporosis. Peach in the diet of cardiac patients helps to normalize blood pressure, reduce the risk of blood clots and strengthen the heart muscle. This is facilitated by the presence of potassium in the composition.

The advantage of the product is its antioxidant properties. Lutein and beta-carotene fight free radicals, preserve the health of cells and slow down the aging process in the body.

The fruit is also useful for the digestive system, as it contains at least 2 g of fiber per 100 g of product. This improves the work of the gastrointestinal tract (GI), the body is cleansed of toxins.

Pectin in the product removes excess fat and reduces bad cholesterol. Its regular consumption reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, senile dementia, anemia. It is useful for people who experience frequent stress, being a natural antidepressant.

Harm of peaches

Consuming peaches, you should remember about possible allergies. It is caused by individual proteins in the peach. Reaction is possible both to fresh and processed fruits. Most often it does not affect the respiratory organs, it affects only the GI tract.

Allergy to peaches causes burning and itching in the mouth, swelling of the lips, rashes on the skin of the face, chest and under the knees, the occurrence of diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. The high content of fruit acids requires a complete refusal of peaches in the exacerbation of peptic ulcer disease and gastritis.

The fruit can harm the health of people with diabetes mellitus. Diabetics are recommended to include the fruit in the diet in small doses, necessarily checking the level of blood glucose before and after eating. It is better to limit yourself to one peach a day and refuse other sweets for the rest of the day.

Peach kernels are not recommended. The hydrocyanic acid contained in them is dangerous to human health. The use of peach pits in food can cause severe intoxication, especially in children. Signs of poisoning are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, increased heart rate, fainting and convulsions.

Culinary use of peaches

Dishes from peaches are able to diversify the summer diet. With heat treatment and canning, they retain most of the useful substances. The simplest and fastest dessert is a smoothie from juicy fruits. When preparing it, you can experiment, adding milk, bananas and other fruits.

The fruit is suitable not only for sweet, but also for meat dishes: it can be grilled, used to prepare a dressing or added to a vegetable salad. You can save the usefulness of the fruit for the winter in the form of jam or compote, as well as freezing it. Dried fruit is a useful snack and a delicious addition to tea.

Methods of storage and selection of peaches

In order for the peach to be sweet and flavorful, it is important to carefully inspect it when buying. The surface of the fruit should not have spots, dents and damage to the skin. A ripe fruit is soft when pressed and has a distinctive odor.

If the peach is fully ripe, it will keep better in the refrigerator. The greenish fruit should be left in a paper bag for a few days at room temperature. You should not wash the fruit beforehand, this reduces its shelf life.

Peach is a useful fruit, the use of which enriches the body with vitamins and minerals, slows down the aging process and gives beauty. However, people who are prone to food allergies and have diabetes should use the fruit with caution, watching the reaction of the body.
