What are the dangers of bodybuilding? The story of David Lade, who at 20 feels 80 years old

David Lade, a 22-year-old Estonian bodybuilder, has become very popular on the Internet, and almost one and a half million people are already subscribed to his Instagram. Guys take an example from him, and girls admire his body. But last year the athlete announced that he was suspending his gym sessions and taking a break for an indefinite period of time.

Who is David Lade and how did he become a bodybuilder?

Lade was born in Tallinn in 1998, but now resides in New York City. At the age of two, he lost his father in a tragic accident. After the death of his father, David’s mother made the decision to move with her son to the United States.

At the age of 14, Lade began to be bullied because of his skinny physique. At that time he weighed only 45 kg. Because of this, the guy felt uncomfortable, which, later, turned into self-confidence problems. Without a father to support him, the situation only got worse.

It got worse when David was diagnosed with scoliosis. Doctors then advised him to start strength training, but the bullying from his peers continued. David later claimed it had a negative impact on his life:

‘Every aspect of my life suffered greatly because I was insecure.

However, David eventually realized that these issues were preventing him from living his life in a positive way. It was at this point that David made the decision to change his life and start going to the gym.

How did fitness change his life and make Lade popular?

David decided to add volume to his lean body. He started looking for different ways to build muscle mass through instructional videos.

I would watch YouTube videos, eat, go to the gym, go home, watch the videos again, go to bed. And so on day in and day out.

Because of his slender build, David quickly began to build muscle mass. This motivated him, because Lade wanted to get a great body.

Eventually, after months of hard workouts in the gym, David made significant gains. Insecurity and low self-esteem were a thing of the past.

From the very beginning of his fitness endeavors, David’s social media following began to grow rapidly. The guy posted all his workouts on Instagram, where he shared the changes in his body with his followers. Thus, he became a source of inspiration for many people around the world. Lade’s example showed everyone that everyone is capable of turning their lives around, while earning a great body. David often showed his progress, which gave him the motivation to keep pushing forward.

Lade always listed pull ups, squats, and bench presses as his favorite exercises. David often used these three exercises to continually improve his physique. He worked out at the gym on a regular basis six times a week to maximize the results of workouts that lasted six hours each. Over time, this strain on the body led to not so good consequences.

Health problems

Last year, the bodybuilder went to the hospital, as he began to suffer from severe back pain. David had a magnetic resonance imaging, thanks to which the guy was given 19 diagnoses: herniated discs of all departments, lordosis (disappearance of the natural curves of the spine, in the norm it is S-shaped), protrusions, etc. Several vertebrae shifted and began to compress the nerves with spinous processes, which caused pain.

Doctors prohibited Lade from any physical activity, including weight lifting. He was recommended to lift no more than 10 pounds. At the age of 21, Lade became disabled, as even fast walking caused him back pain.

Now David continues to post photos from the gym in his “instagram”, but it is almost impossible to see a guy with a barbell in his hands. Basically, he lifts dumbbells, does yoga and avoids heavy weights. He recently underwent a course of physical therapy and continues to take pain medication. Whether he will be able to get rid of such acute pain is still very much in question, but David Lade’s example has shown us that it is not worth it to give your body such extreme loads.
