The second place was taken by the meeting between Russian Daniil Medvedev and German Alexander Zverev at the group stage of the final tournament. In third place was the game between Britain’s Andy Murray and American Francis Tiafoe in the first round of the tournament in Antwerp.

Fourth place went to the match between Russia’s Aslan Karatsev and Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the tournament in Belgrade. In fifth position is the meeting between Medvedev and Djokovic in the final of the Masters in Paris.

Lewis Hamilton is presented to the title of Knight of the British Empire

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has been presented by the British government to the title of knight bachelor for his services to motorsport.

Russian team Team Spirit won the Dota 2 World Championship and received $18 million

Russians from Team Spirit became the champions of The International 2021 Dota 2. The final match against the Chinese ended with a score of 3:2, for which Team Spirit earned $18.2 million in prize money. This made its members the richest Dota 2 players in the CIS. In second place was PSG.LGD with $ 5.2 million in prize money, and in third place was Team Secret with $ 3.6 million.

The Moscow Marathon did not take place

In September 2021, the 9th Moscow Marathon was supposed to take place, but the epidemiological situation interfered with these plans and the event was postponed to 2022.

The American Quidditch Association (USQ) and the Major League Quidditch (MLQ) have decided to change the name of their sport.

Quidditch is a team sports game from the Harry Potter universe created by writer J.K. Rowling. This game uses three balls and players fly on broomsticks. After the books and movies were released, this sport was adapted for real life – matches are played on the ground, and instead of brooms, people take special sticks or other objects.

Over the past year, the USQ and MLQ have been thinking about a new name for Quidditch, talking to lawyers and experts, and over the next few months the leagues will conduct polls and choose a new name.

The leagues decided to change the name because of copyright issues. The name “Quidditch” is considered a trademark of Warner Bros. who produced the Harry Potter movies. Because of this, the sport is difficult to develop as organizers have problems with sponsorship and broadcasting.

Russia has won the Billie Jean King Tennis Cup tournament

Billie Jean, in cooperation with the International Tennis Federation, holds team competitions in women’s tennis. Until 2020, these matches were held under the name of the Federations Cup, but this year they were renamed the Billie Jean King Cup.

In November, the first competition was held under the name of the great tennis player, and the Russian team, for which Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Daria Kasatkina, Veronika Kudermetova, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Lyudmila Samsonova played, won. It’s been 13 years since Russia won, with the 2021 team rewriting history.
