What hinders productivity and how to fix it

Productivity is about taking daily action to improve the quality of your life. Making big changes in your life takes energy and time, it takes motivation. Everyone has their own ideals and aspirations in life.

Answer yourself the questions. Do I have enough motivation, strength and inspiration for change? And why am I doing all this in the first place? Because the end result should be in line with your idea. When you take a conscious approach to thinking through your ideas, half of them can fall away for being ineffective and unnecessary.

Three important components. Productivity has three major components that keep a person moving forward: time, energy, and focus. You won’t have productivity if you don’t know how to manage these three things. If your attention misses your fatigue and you don’t give yourself time to rest, your energy reserve will be depleted very soon, leading to inefficiency. This is the law.

Procrastination. This is the enemy of productivity. Agree, many of us often put off urgent business for later, resulting in negative results.

Causes of procrastination: boring business, complexity, no value, no pleasure in accomplishment.

To keep your goal out of the procrastination drawer, do an easy exercise. When you write down three things to do in your day at the beginning of the day, mentally transport yourself to the end of the day and ask: when this day is over, what three things would I like to see accomplished? And write them down.

You can also change the environment and ways of doing things, replace the unpleasant with the positive. For example, go to a cafe and write an article there, sitting at a table by a panoramic window with a cup of coffee. Use a timer, take breaks.

Time management. How often do you rest? Do you get enough sleep? By taking away your hours of rest, you reduce your focus of attention.

Remember: it’s not about how much you work through at the end of the day, it’s about how much quality rest you get and how efficiently you work afterward. Overworking does nothing of value but waste time and energy. Keeping a daily planner and delegating some responsibilities will also help you with time management.

Be mindful. Use techniques such as mindful reading, mindful eating, and active listening. All the time note your state: are you here? The most effective method of mindfulness is meditation.

Here’s an exercise for you: set a timer for 2-3 minutes, relax, sit up straight but don’t slouch. Then focus your attention on your breathing process: inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Observe your sensations. Of course, after a while you will notice that you are distracted, but your task is to bring your attention back to your breathing.

The first and most important thing that, in my opinion, hinders productivity and can ruin everything at the root – incorrectly set goals and objectives. If you incorrectly assess the upcoming work and fail to set a goal, it is fraught with overwork and missing deadlines. Quite a problem for both work processes and everyday life.

Focus on what’s important

The second thing that can hinder productivity is a poorly developed time management skill. To me, productivity is about doing things not only with quality but also on time. And if a person has problems with time management, meeting these items is almost impossible.

Delegate

Often managers are hindered from being productive by the inability to delegate and the desire to control every little thing that employees do. There is no time left for their own tasks and team development. In addition, it often irritates the team.
