Health from the inside out: 5 reasons to go to an osteopath

Do you come home in the evening after work with a nagging pain in your back, lower back and neck? Or maybe old sports injuries have come back to mind after an intense workout… Each of these problems is a good reason to visit an osteopathic doctor. But sometimes the symptoms that tell us that we need the intervention of a professional doctor are not so obvious. They are still in their infancy.

Personal experience: how it was for me

I went to an osteopathic doctor at the OSTEO POLY CLINIC Clinic of Osteopathy and Classical Medicine with a complaint of constant aching pain in the back and cervical-collar zone. Naturally, like any meticulous patient, I diagnosed myself on the Internet, long before visiting the clinic. I attributed the pain to frequent work at the computer, intensive strength training and as a consequence – curvature of the spine. My back periodically “slouched” by itself, so the causes of my problem were obvious to me.

Naturally, as any patient with imagination, I also thought up a treatment in advance. In my head it was like this: I go in, lie down, the doctor “crunches” me something in my back, I immediately feel better, I come out happy, everything is gone. In reality, everything turned out to be a little different.

Preliminary diagnosis

And when I was ready to lie down in order, as you have already understood, to have something in my back put back into place under the sounding crunch of vertebrae, the doctor stopped me and said that first we would need to fill out my card. There were quite a few questions, and they were related to completely unrelated, in my opinion, facts about my health. The doctor asked what medications I had taken recently, what I had been ill with, if I had any complaints about the functioning of any internal organs. Later, I was really convinced of how interconnected everything is.

It’s not about my back

“It’s not about the back,” the doctor summarized. I was very surprised by this statement. How could it not be my back if my back hurts? After examining me and filling out the card, the doctor told me that my pelvis was very twisted. It is because of this that all other parts of the body are overloaded, including this problem could greatly affect the condition of internal organs, which in my case did not happen. Partly, I suppose, because I did not crawl to the osteopath after all, but came on my own. My problem, according to the doctor, was fixed in just two visits. Each session took about 50 minutes.

After the osteopath’s session

After visiting an osteopath, you will need to adhere to a number of rules. It is they that will help you maximize the result. First, it is necessary to exclude intensive strength training for the next three days, because after the session, the joints will acquire high mobility. The osteopath only triggers the process of movement, pushes the body to change, and the real magic happens to you in the next three days. Secondly, you should not get hypothermia. Thirdly, try not to lift heavy objects.

Don’t panic: this too will pass

I remember that right after the session, on Friday night, I was coming home with a smile halfway down my face, gripped by thoughts of the placebo effect. The next day I was sore all over (well almost), this stage runs differently for everyone, some people won’t even notice the discomfort, and especially sensitive comrades will absolutely have an unscheduled day off. As I said above, our joints gain increased mobility during this period and continue to gradually fall into place.

The final stage: relief

And so one beautiful winter day after visiting the clinic, I caught myself thinking that my neck pain, tired back and aching lower back had stopped. The lightness that appeared in my body is beautiful and tangible to this day.

In what cases is it necessary to visit an osteopath?

Alexandra Makarova, a member of the Russian Osteopathic Association of Osteopathic Doctors, practicing osteopathic physician, tells us:

● You are worried about old injuries, and we are not necessarily talking about professional athletes here. Just about any average person has injuries that occasionally resurface;
● you’re bothered by pointy or nagging pains;
● you have insomnia. You may be unable to sleep because your body cannot find a comfortable position;
● you have just had braces fitted;
● your newborn baby has any co-morbidities;
● your newborn baby has had a difficult delivery;
● you need to start the recovery process after intense exercise.

Are there any age restrictions?

Absolutely none, young children can attend a session with parental consent.
