Where and what to eat during a road trip. 3 safe ways

When traveling by car, you often want to have a snack, but this is no reason to indulge in the usual “road” products: instant soups and sandwiches. It is not difficult to follow the principles of healthy eating while traveling, if you approach this issue intelligently.

What to take with you from home

This is one of the easiest ways to warn yourself against closed establishments along the road and lack of stores. Here’s what you can take with you:

Protein – comes in animal (meat, eggs, fish) and plant (legumes, soy, nuts and seeds) sources. When traveling, you can boil a piece of chicken for lunch and dinner, and eggs for breakfast. Alternatively, replace one of these meals with nuts or other plant-based protein, and buy fish snacks that are convenient to take with you on your trip.

Fats – should be of good quality, satiate the body and provide benefits. Useful fats are found in eggs, seeds and nuts, avocados and cold-pressed oils that can be added to salads.

Complex carbohydrates are legumes, cereals, which are needed for energy and well-being. You can boil buckwheat, whole-grain pasta, chickpeas in advance and take them with you on the road. With such products it is very easy to make a quick and healthy snack, especially if you add vegetables to them.

Fiber – is found in vegetables and greens. The main recommendation – do not forget to wash them before leaving, so as not to spend time on it on the road.

You can have a picnic by the fire: find a cool place along the road or in the distance, spread a plaid and have a snack without rushing – a kind of road romance. You already know how to make a healthy diet, and you’ll take all the necessary products with you. For example, marinated meat, fresh vegetables and pita bread. And since it’s summer, don’t forget to put everything in a cooler bag so your food won’t spoil on the road. Take with you disposable dishes and barbecue, wet wipes and a garbage bag. Do not leave behind an unpleasant “gift” to nature.

What to buy at a gas station

The choice of useful products at gas stations is small, but you can still find something:

  • bars – contain protein, carbohydrates and fiber (for example, bite, raw.life). But check the composition so that there is no sugar;
  • nuts (without dried fruit), sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds – these are great protein options for meals.

Also do not forget about water: it is recommended 30-35 ml of liquid per kilogram of body weight.

What to eat at a roadside cafe

You can always find hot food at roadside establishments. A good option – chicken or mushroom soup, pita from whole-grain flour, salad “Vitamin”.
