How to breathe properly to speed up your metabolism

A simple exercise will teach you to engage the diaphragm and breathe deeply.

The process of weight loss is closely related to metabolism. On it depends on how hard or, conversely, easily you lose extra pounds. Unfortunately, with age, the metabolism of each person slows down and the body spends less and less energy for basic needs. And if in 20 years the body keeps a healthy weight, forgiving us snacks fast food, then after ten years, the consumption and consumption of calories have to be carefully balanced, so that the excess is not reflected in the figure.

In this regard, health experts have begun to talk about various ways to boost metabolism. These include, for example, exercise, long walks, contrast showers and meditation. And after a clinical study conducted by Yunsan University in South Korea, it became clear that simple breathing exercises also help boost metabolism.

Results of the clinical study

The Korean experiment involved 38 people who had no history of neuromuscular, orthopedic or cardiopulmonary disorders. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups. Those who fell into the first, purposefully practiced deep breathing with diaphragm. And the second group practiced with a feedback device, which regulated the rate of breathing with the help of symbols. Such a simulator is usually used to treat patients with respiratory diseases.

After that, the experts compared the performance of both groups. It turned out that both diaphragmatic breathing and practice with a special device positively affect the maximum absorption of oxygen by the body. But the rate of metabolism increases only the first method.

Deep breathing contributes to weight loss

It turns out that breathing with the diaphragm contributes to weight loss. The whole point is that during this practice, a large dome-shaped muscle is included in the work, which is located under the rib cage. This requires additional energy expenditure from the body.

In addition, during deep breathing more oxygen enters the body, which increases blood flow, and this has a positive effect on the work of all organs and metabolism.

How to learn to breathe with the diaphragm?

This breathing technique does not require special preparation and great effort. It can be practiced in any position: sitting, lying or standing. Figuratively speaking, our main task is to learn to breathe with the abdomen, not the chest.

To do this, put your hands on your abdomen, on the area under the ribs. Take a deep belly breath for eight counts and watch how it inflates. The chest should remain stationary. Then exhale slowly for eight counts, again starting from the abdomen. When you are done, count to four and start the exercise again.

Even ten minutes of regular practice will help speed up your metabolism, improve your overall health and get rid of stress. And this will have the best effect on your aspirations.
