Over the last week, the thermometer has gone over +30°, and a real heat wave has come to Russia. If it is still bearable in nature, then in the city such a temperature is felt as critical: hot asphalt, houses heated in the sun and almost complete absence of shade. Many people save themselves from the sudden summer with air conditioners, ice-cold drinks and fans. But sometimes they do more harm than good.
Together with therapist Elena Chernenko we tell you what you should not do in the heat.
Turn on the fan
At a heat of +35 ° and above the fan will not save the situation. There is little oxygen in the air, and it will just distill a heavy hot stream, which is difficult to breathe.
Wear clothes made of 100% cotton
It is believed that with natural fabrics it is easier to bear the heat. But clothes made of pure cotton will not have time to dry when you go into a cold office after a good sweat in the subway. The doctor advises to choose materials with the addition of synthetics (such as viscose) and give preference to loose styles. And cotton should be left for sea walks and trips to the countryside.
Block sweating
Antiperspirants and talcum powder should be avoided. They clog pores and prevent sweat from being released. However, the process of thermoregulation does not stop: the body tries to cool down, but can not and as a result overheats. So you can get a heat stroke. It is better to take an extra shower or, if there is no such opportunity, you can use wet wipes.
Drink less to avoid sweating
Reducing your fluid intake is not a good idea. You may sweat less, but as the previous point suggests, it won’t do you any good. Even if you lose 1% of your total body water, you will experience weakness, rapid heart rate and other unpleasant symptoms. So in hot weather, on the contrary, you should drink more than usual.
Drinking cold water
The doctor notes that liquid at room temperature or body temperature is digested best. Anything colder can bring only temporary relief. But do not hurry to give up hot soups and drinks: with their help they warm up the internal organs, which stimulates sweating.
Take a cold shower
If you are not accustomed to contrast showers and never hardened, you should not go all out in the heat. It’s not long before you catch a cold.
Neglect sunscreen
Even in the city, it is necessary to apply sunscreen. The doctor recommends using creams with SPF not lower than 50. In addition, now you can also find clothes with protection from UV rays.
Cool off under air conditioning
If you don’t harden yourself, sudden temperature changes can be quite dangerous. The body has thermoregulation, and in the heat it starts to cool itself – it sweats. When you get into a cold room or get in the car right from the street, the body does not have time to readjust. In this case, the risk of catching a cold increases. After all, in extremely hot weather, your immunity decreases just as much as in cold weather.
