What spices are considered the most useful?
The healing properties and benefits of spices have been known since antiquity. People believed that with the help of various spices you can cure even scurvy and other serious diseases, such as diabetes.
The variety of spices can be divided by effects and areas of influence. For example, many hot spices help in weight loss. Read more about this in the article at the link.
I want to tell you about three universal ones that do not provoke allergies and can be used in different formats: separately, as a seasoning or as the basis of a drink.
A useful triad against viruses, moping and cravings for sweets:
- cinnamon;
- zázvor;
- turmeric.
I will tell you about each spice in detail.
Škorica
Natural cinnamon is an effective remedy against cravings for sweets. Despite the fact that this spice has a slightly sweet flavor, it reduces the glycemic index of foods with which it is eaten.
Regular consumption of cinnamon helps normalize blood sugar levels and increase insulin sensitivity due to its high content of polyphenols and antioxidants.
Cinnamon has a tonic effect, supports normal metabolism of sugar, protein and fats.
Cinnamon extract also has a protective antioxidant effect. It can be added to wild rice, soups, curries, casseroles or put a pinch of ground cinnamon in cooked dishes.
Ginger
Best remedy for overeating, bloating and abdominal discomfort. Ginger helps fight strong cravings for flour and sweets by activating digestion and enzymes.
To wake up the digestive system, you need to thinly slice ginger, splash it with lemon or lime juice, salt it a little and eat it.
Ginger root is an excellent remedy for treating respiratory organs and preventing colds and flu. In addition, the spice can be a salvation for pregnant women and help with morning toxicosis.
Fresh ginger and its juice have a cleansing effect in the presence of toxins in the intestines, kidneys and skin. The root and juice can be used for dressings and as an ingredient in salads, soups, stews, you can also prepare ginger drinks.
For example, ginger tea soothes the stomach and reduces nausea. It speeds up metabolism and replenishes vitamins A, C, B1, B2, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, zinc and potassium in the body.
Kurkuma
This spice is effective in the treatment of pathologies of the pancreas and liver – helps the organs to recover faster after the disease. In pancreatitis, dishes with this spice help restore the functionality of the organ and stabilize the process of bile drainage.
The use of spice in the pathology of the pancreas depends on the stage of the disease. In the acute course of pancreatitis, the use of turmeric is prohibited. It can cause additional irritation of the mucous membranes and increase the load on the inflamed organ.
The main useful component is curcumin, which strengthens the immune system and improves cognitive function. “Golden” spice has an anti-inflammatory effect, normalizes blood sugar levels and stimulates the formation of insulin.
On the basis of turmeric, you can prepare a useful caffeine-free latte (aka “golden milk”) and healing tea.
How to prepare warming tea from ginger and cinnamon
These plants have warming and soothing qualities. Decaffeinated herbal tea is a great alternative to coffee and black tea because it doesn’t have dehydrating effects.
Budete potrebovať:
- ginger – 1 slice (4-5 cm);
- škorica - podľa chuti;
- black pepper – to taste;
- water – 1 liter.
Peel a small piece of ginger, slice and drop into boiling water. Cook for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, season with cinnamon and black pepper.
