What fruits and vegetables are in season in June? What is better to buy?

June is the first month of the long-awaited summer and the beginning of the season of ripe fruits and vegetables! The time of June gifts is short, so hurry to the market. We tell you what fruits and vegetables to buy in June to get the most out of them.

In the first month of summer, store shelves and market counters are filled with apricots, cherries, strawberries, vegetables and herbs.

For fruits and vegetables there is a natural period of growth and ripening. In June, seasonal fruits are grown without the use of pesticides or nitrates, and are not treated with wax or other appearance enhancers.

Fresh cucumbers and tomatoes

Pesticide-free tomatoes come from Azerbaijan, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar. Don’t hesitate to ask sellers where exactly the vegetables come from.

Choose fruits of small size: they are more juicy and sweet. Tomato varieties “Paradise” and “Bull Heart” are characterized by juiciness and rich flavor, and pink tomatoes – tenderness and sweetness.

Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C, A, magnesium and lycopene – a unique antioxidant substance that slows down the aging process, protects against atherosclerotic clogging of blood vessels and the development of cancer.

When choosing cucumbers, give preference to small “plump” varieties. Cucumber is 95% water, contains potassium, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, iron, chlorine, iodine, vitamins A, B1, B2, C and is rich in fiber.

Abundant greens

June has an incredibly rich selection of greens: green onions, spinach, parsley, parsley, dill, basil, sorrel, string beans and young green peas.

  • Dill, parsley and onions are rich in phytoncides – substances with antibacterial action that help fight colds.
  • Basil has antiviral, diuretic, analgesic and mild sedative properties.
  • String beans and young green peas are excellent sources of vegetable protein, contain antioxidants and promote weight loss.

Greens are high in vitamins and fiber, which are essential for proper intestinal function. Consume aromatic greens in raw form: add them to salads, soups and hot dishes. Fresh herbs without heat treatment retain 99% of vitamins and beneficial properties.

Cherries, cherries and strawberries

Cherries contain vitamins B, C, E, K, as well as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper, manganese, iodine and phosphorus.

  • Cherry normalizes metabolism, improves the work of the heart, liver and brain. Berry has expectorant, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and antiseptic properties.
  • Cherries favorably affect the heart and blood vessels, and also contain ellagic acid, which blocks the growth of cancer cells.
  • Strawberries also support the heart and blood vessels thanks to phenols, which are part of the berry. In early June, the berries on the shelves are imported, but already delicious and naturally grown.

Radish is a unique choleretic and anti-edematous agent, it improves the gastrointestinal tract. Consumption of radish has a positive effect on facial skin and cardiovascular system, helps to reduce blood sugar. It is recommended for people with gout, obesity and diabetes.

Cauliflower

This vegetable is well digested and rich in useful substances:

  • mineral salts;
  • amino acids;
  • B vitamins;
  • vitamins C, PP, H;
  • calcium, sodium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, potassium;
  • folic acid and pantothenic acid.

Cauliflower protects against inflammation on the skin, has a positive effect on the general condition of the scalp and hair growth, reduces the risk of cancer. This useful vegetable normalizes blood pressure and helps to fight headaches. Cabbage can be boiled, stewed, baked or steamed – it is a complete version of a side dish.

A June food basket can also include apricots, honeysuckle, currants and blueberries, eggplant, zucchini, young potatoes and sweet peppers.

As a side note, early varieties of apricots will begin to ripen by the middle of the month. The fragrant fruits are rich in potassium, so they perfectly support the cardiovascular and nervous systems and improve mood.
