Keď sa najete, môžete spať? Čo by ste nemali robiť hneď po jedle

After a heavy – or not so heavy – lunch, everyone has their own rituals. Some people like to take a walk in the fresh air, others like to lie down to rest. And some cannot do without tea and dessert. However, such habits are not always beneficial, and often even harmful. Nutriciologist, food blogger, expert of the International Festival of Health and Sports SN PRO EXPO FORUM Aliya Patashina tells us what you should not do after a meal.

Do not drink cold water

Cool water slows down the digestion process. This can cause spasm, contraction of the walls of the stomach. In general, when taking cold water, food is literally pushed out of the stomach. This is a direct path to obesity, because it is impossible to get satiated and the feeling of hunger will come very quickly. I think you’ve noticed that cold food is much less satiating than warm food. That’s why fast food restaurants aggressively impose with advertisements and bright posters complex sets with ice-cold sodas. A person gets hungry very quickly and will come again.

In addition, putrefactive processes begin in the intestines, food is not digested normally. The protein part of the food is not broken down completely and remains in the body. This can lead to intestinal diseases and dysbacteriosis.

Do not drink tea

Abundant drinking interferes with the digestive process. Also, tea contains tannins that can interfere with the absorption of important micro- and macronutrients, especially iron, causing anemia, chronic fatigue and dizziness.

Some teas aid digestion, such as green or herbal teas. But for people who have stomach problems, drinking tea immediately after a meal is not recommended.

Do not go to bed

This is a very bad habit. Remember the winged phrase: “You have eaten – you can sleep”? Why do you feel sleepy after eating? The fact is that during a meal activates the parasympathetic nervous system: slows the flow of blood to muscle tissues and accelerates its flow to the digestive tract. The body is not able to combine digestion and active activity, so after a heavy lunch is often so keen to lie down.

But if you still take a horizontal position immediately after eating, some of the food juices can flow from the stomach back into the esophagus, resulting in heartburn. It is better to go to bed no earlier than two hours after dinner.

Do not smoke

Smoking after meals causes irritable bowel syndrome and does not affect the muscles of the large intestine in the best way. Nicotine provokes vasospasm and impaired oxygen metabolism and interferes with the production of digestive enzymes. Tobacco smoke reaches the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract, irritates them and increases the risks of many diseases.

In addition, along with nutrients from food, nicotine is also digested. Its dose is equivalent to ten cigarettes smoked at one time. This makes smoking after meals especially harmful. It is better to give up such a pernicious habit altogether.

Do not wear tight clothes

Tight jeans, ultra-tight turtleneck, tight belt can provoke the movement of food from the stomach back into the esophagus. This is called gastroesophageal reflux disease. To avoid unpleasant consequences, you should not dilly dally diligently after lunch.

Do not take a bath

Hot water increases blood flow to the entire body surface and reduces blood flow in the stomach area. Blood pressure and body temperature rise, and the body has to reorganize its work. Because of this, the blood supply to the digestive organs is disturbed and can have a bad effect on intestinal peristalsis.

Introductory procedures should be carried out 2-3 hours after eating.

Do not exercise

After eating, the parasympathetic system, which is responsible for relaxation and rest, is activated – the body needs energy to digest food. The sympathetic system, which is responsible for movement, is less active at this time. You should not interfere with the digestive process. This applies to any exercise, including swimming. During physical exertion, blood flow to the active muscles of the intestine decreases, colic and spasms can occur.

Do not drive

After eating, all the body’s forces are aimed at digesting food, the blood supply to the brain also decreases. Reduced and reaction speed and concentration. Do not immediately get behind the wheel, it is better to wait for half an hour and then go on the road.

Do not go for a walk

Walking immediately after eating can cause acid reflux or indigestion. Go for a walk at least half an hour after eating – this activity will do you good.

Don’t eat sweets

Drinking a hearty meal with a cup of tea and dessert is not a good habit. For many people, eating sweets after a meal is a kind of ritual that puts an end to the meal. Many get used to this since childhood.

The fact is that the feeling of satiety comes 20 minutes after eating. And dessert can easily be overdone. Finish your meal at the stage of “slightly satiated”, do not fill up to the brim.

After eating, give your body time to digest the food, assimilate all the nutrients. And leave the business for later.
