Is it worth it or is it not so bad to stand in line at the rental shop?

The most popular active pastime on winter vacations is skating. Especially since in every neighborhood you can now find several skating rinks, and some lucky people even have them in their yards. But what if you still don’t have your own skates? To rent, if you skate more than once every three months, has long been unprofitable, and on small sites rental and not at all. You have to think about buying your own pair. We tell you what you need to keep in mind when choosing recreational skates, so that it was not only beautiful, but also safe.

If you are still in doubt whether you need this purchase:

  • Using rental skates is not very hygienic. Rental equipment is not always treated after every visitor;
  • rental skates are often very worn and are likely to hang on your feet;
  • on New Year’s holidays you will have to stand in lines before and after skating;
  • you can skate in your own skates on any rink near your home filled with amateurs absolutely free of charge.

You should not buy figure or hockey skates for regular skating

Recreational skates are designed for those who do not plan to study and perform any complex elements. Their blade often has the shape of hockey or figure skates, but the teeth are much shorter and do not interfere with skating.

Choose insulated models

Choosing skates a size larger is not a good idea. If only because it is very traumatic – the boots can dangle and insufficiently fix your foot. If you plan to skate in open areas, it is better to initially choose models with insulation.

Check the stiffness of the boot

To do this, squeeze the shank. Hard leather does not lose its shape, soft leather is more pliable. Amateur should pay attention to the second option. Riding in such will be much easier.

Pay attention to the material of the blade

Most often the blades of recreational skates are strips of stainless steel. But it is worth remembering that, despite this characteristic, after skating, skates need to be wiped and dried. Take a closer look at the metal. Quality material has a matte shade, there are no scratches and inclusions on it. High-carbon steel is more expensive, but such blades do not rust longer and remain sharp.

Check for anatomical inserts

Among recreational skates, you can find models with anatomical inserts that will make skating even more comfortable. The sole made of such material is created taking into account the peculiarities of the human foot and allows you to feel the sliding on the ice much better. And the anatomical tongue, for example, contributes to better fixation of the shin and softens the pressure of lacing.

The main thing – when choosing skates think not only about economy, but also about safety. Then definitely nothing will mar your New Year’s holidays.
