First, let’s define who he is, the unhappy person. He is someone who has a feeling of self-pity living inside him. He has already gone through three stages of emotion development: irritation, anger, pain. Now he has moved on to the fourth – this is pity.

“His whole body is broadcasting how much he feels sorry for himself. With his appearance, it’s as if he’s giving instructions to those around him to treat himself: “See what’s happening to me now? Take this into account and speak accordingly.” He will broadcast all this through his body, facial expressions, and gaze.
Let’s look at it in detail. What does this unhappy person look and behave like?”
1. Staring at the floor
The unhappy man is not about life, but about the dynamics of death. That is why he is always looking at the floor. What is under our feet? The ground. What is there? The grave. In psychology it is said that “a man looks into his grave when he looks down.”
2. A sad expression on the face
If a happy person is a living person, an unhappy person is an inanimate person.
Remember, as in fairy tales – there is life-giving water and there is dead water. Whichever one you take, that’s what happens to you. It’s the same here.
If a person is unhappy, he is mentally inanimate at that moment. He is like a ghost. And this is naturally reflected in his behavior. A person will be slow, with a sad expression on his face – like Piero from the well-known fairy tale about Pinocchio.
3. unwillingness to take responsibility
An unhappy person will not take responsibility. And how can he take it upon himself if he is mentally no longer there? After all, man has two dates of death. One is mental (when he does not want anything, cannot be lifted out of bed, cannot be taken out of the house), and the other is physical (when his heart has stopped beating).
Unhappy people, since mentally they are no longer there, cannot live fully. Nevertheless, physically the heart still beats, so they will blame or make excuses. They will immediately say why and wherefore something went wrong. And everything will be cited as reasons: people, events, circumstances, time.
4. lack of dreams
An unhappy person will ask questions like: “What is the meaning of life?”. This is the most frequent request with which I as a psychologist am addressed. And then I immediately realize that the person is deeply unhappy.
Another indicator is to ask a person what he dreams about. If you hear something vague in response: “I don’t even know”, it means that he is unhappy. A dream is a future. If there is no future, there is no life.
5. Overweight
Most often (but not always) unhappy people are those who have eating problems and are overweight. When a person is unhappy, the first thing they start to do to make themselves feel good quickly is to devour food.
If a person eats a lot, it means he is eating something – some stress, dissatisfaction with himself, dislike of himself. He turns his body into a garbage can, shoving everything useful and unhelpful into it. That’s why people who are obese or overweight are unhappy. But here, of course, we do not take cases when a person has health problems and excess weight is a consequence of them.
