It is believed that New Year’s Eve is a family holiday, but everyone celebrates it in their own way. Someone really prefers to spend this time with family and necessarily with observance of all family traditions: a big Christmas tree, olivier on a special grandmother’s recipe and presents not earlier than the morning of January 1. Others, in the midst of winter, seek to escape from the cold (or rain) closer to the sea and the sun, and for some even New Year’s Eve is not an excuse to take a day off work. We tell you how famous athletes greeted 2020, and with it the new decade.
Artyom Dzyuba
The captain of Zenit St. Petersburg and the Russian national soccer team is a family man. He welcomed the year 2020 at home with his family and friends. All the guests gathered at a large festive table and took a joint photo in funny hats with rat faces – the symbol of the coming year.
Alexander Ovečkin
The Washington Capitals forward also celebrated the New Year with his family. In his Instagram he published a photo with his wife Anastasia and two-year-old son Sergei against the backdrop of the Christmas tree. From all their family Ovechkins wished subscribers health, love and success in 2020.
Pavel Mamajev
Although Pavel himself is not too active in social networks, his wife Alana shared photos from New Year’s Eve night on Instagram. The footballer’s family flew to celebrate 2020 away from the rainy Russian winter in Dubai.
Alina Zagitová
One of the most talented Russian figure skaters Alina Zagitova celebrated the New Year at home. The girl posted a cute photo with her beloved dog Masaru and, like many, summed up the year. 2019 was quite eventful for her: the figure skater won gold at the World Championships in Japan, became the first Russian to win all the titles in figure skating, and also announced the suspension of her sports career.
Maria Šarapovová
But the former world number one, it seems, even on New Year’s Eve can’t completely distract herself from work. On the eve of the holiday, Maria flew to Australia, probably to prepare for the upcoming Australian Open 2020. As the tennis player wrote in Instagram, she met the New Year in pajamas and with jetlag after a heavy flight.
Cristiano Ronaldo
The striker of the Italian Juventus spent the winter holidays with his family. First, Cristiano celebrated Christmas with his wife and children on the beach, and New Year’s Eve met at the home of his parents, where the whole family gathered.
David Beckham
David Beckham also considers New Year’s Eve a family holiday. He met it in the circle of his closest loved ones: his wife Victoria and their four children.
Neymar
Judging by the “Instagram” of the striker of “Paris Saint-Germain”, his holiday vacations are more than active. Together with his friends, Neymar met the New Year on the hot coast of his native Brazil.
Conor McGregor
Harsh in the ring, in life Conor McGregor does not seem so intimidating. Like many, he spent Christmas Eve at home with his wife, children and parents. And even tried on a few funny hats: Christmas paper crown – not a papaha, of course, but it will do.
Santa certainly didn’t spare the McGregor family this year. Gifts were piled up all over the house. Both children and adults got new cars.
Stephen Curry
Christmas is a time for good deeds, so Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha tried on famous movie images on the eve of the holiday. Stephen dressed as the Grinch, the one who stole Christmas, and Ayesha dressed as Cindy Lou Who, the girl who saved Christmas. The Currys held a holiday program as part of their charity project, “Eat. Learn. Play.”
They say that how you celebrate New Year’s Eve is how you spend it. But even if you dream to spend 2020 as actively as never before, you should have time to rest during the New Year vacations. As it turns out, even the most successful and hardest working people – athletes and not only – need time to rest and recover before a year full of new events.
