10 unusual Guinness Book sports records. They really surprised us

Every one of us at least once in our lives has dreamed of doing something that could write his or her name in the history of mankind. Of course, it is possible to accomplish a feat, make a loud discovery in science or take the simplest way and get into the Guinness Book of Records. Actually, that’s what our today’s heroes did.

On a side note: The book “Guinness. World Records” (Guinness World Records) in different years was called differently: “World Book of Records”, “Guinness Book of Records” and “Guinness Book of World Records”, but the essence always remained the same. It is an annual reference book telling about records of people, animals, unique natural phenomena, achievements of show business and culture.

The Directory of Records was first published by order of the Irish brewing company “Guinness” in 1955. The idea of creation belonged to Hugh Beaver, who wanted to create for all pub-goers in Ireland and Britain a certain “source” to settle disputes about the record of various things and phenomena. Now let’s move on to the achievements themselves.

No, this is not a joke or a figment of imagination. For most of us, a headstand would seem a serious test of our physical abilities, but not for Chinese gymnast Li Longlong, who managed to climb 36 stairs on his head. There is nothing to add here. It’s all captured on video, just watch.

Throwing paper airplanes into watermelons

Once we have already told you that there is a world championship for launching paper airplanes. So, Yangguk Lee from South Korea decided to go a different way and set a record for launching the maximum number of paper airplanes straight into watermelons in one minute. In 2016, he managed to nab 12 paper projectiles. Unfortunately, this record didn’t hold for long, and in 2018 Nong Juning from China managed to nab 13 paper airplanes.

Naturally, Russia could not stay aside. Our compatriots own a sufficient number of records, one of which is the largest number of chest presses under water. And if at first only 62 repetitions were recorded, Vitaly Vivchar from Tomsk was able to squeeze the bar weighing 50 kg 77 times. This time, the creators of the record-setting report video decided to endure a whole drama. First, in 2019, the record height was a mark at 3.4 meters. But two years later, the result was improved by Li Xinan and Felix Quinton to a height of 3.7m. This record was not as easy for the second duo as it was for the first.

Longest basketball hoop shot

Joshua Walker from the USA tried to break five different basketball records during the day, one of which was the longest shot. From a distance of 34.6 meters, he managed to put the ball straight into the basket. There are other records on the video, the complexity of which can only be assessed by a professional basketball player.

Narrowest parallel parking on an electric car

The owner of the record and the narrowest parking on an electric car is Paul Swift from the UK. He managed to park his Mini between other cars with a space reserve of 30 cm. The co-pilot Johnny Davis had a not simpler task: in a minute of time he had to spin the maximum number of “donuts” (drift in a circle) around the motorcycle, which was riding on the rear wheel. We won’t reveal the result, see for yourself.

Helicopter pull-up record

All that is interesting to know about this record is that instead of a regular tourniquet, a real helicopter is used here. Dutchman Stan Bruining achieved the result of 25 pull-ups. There is no point in looking at the record itself, but it is possible to look at it for a moment.

The highest wave for surfing

Most likely, you have already stumbled on the Internet more than once on crazy shots from one of the Portuguese shores, where surfers ride. There is a red lighthouse on the shore, a lot of people and waves as high as American skyscrapers. So, German surfer Sebastian Steuner was able to conquer the wave height of 26.21 meters in the same place, off the coast of Praia do Norte in Nazare. And, naturally, this feat made it into the Guinness Book of Records.

At first you will go into a state of shock, as what you see in the video will not want to be called reality. The fury and speed with which an ordinary grandfather breaks classic baseball bats in half is both mesmerizing and frightening at the same time. All he had to do was break the maximum number of bats in one minute. In the end, 68 pieces broke.

And lastly – the most recent record, which was recorded in Nebraska. A 60-year-old man decided to celebrate his anniversary in a special way and rafted 38 miles (61 km) down the Missouri River in a huge pumpkin weighing 846 pounds (1,865 kg). Inside “Big Bertha” (that’s what he named his “boat”), Dwayne Hansen paced the river for 11 hours, which eventually allowed him to set a new world record.
