When we talk about daytime sleep, we do not mean siesta, which is so common in many hot countries. In this climate, people are forced to stay at home and not work in the middle of the day, but that doesn’t mean they are sleeping during that time. Otherwise, everyone everywhere would have trouble falling asleep at night.

Secondly, there is a theory that the 1.5 hour cycles that start as soon as we fall asleep continue during the day. And in the average person, daytime sleepiness occurs around 2:00 p.m., when the cycles close.

Thirdly, a sleepy state often appears if you do not go outdoors, do not see the sun – the remnants of melatonin circulate in the blood, causing the desire to take a nap.

How to properly conduct “coffee nap”?

To fully feel the benefits of coffee nap, you need to do the following:

  • turn off your cell phone;
  • set the alarm clock for 20 minutes, and in vibration mode;
  • if possible, assume a horizontal position;
  • close the office;
  • shade the windows or put on a sleep mask;
  • wear earplugs or silent headphones.

Before falling asleep, drink a cup of coffee, because its effect is not immediate. The drink needs time to reach the stomach and digest. Only then will caffeine begin to block adenosine receptors, the very substance that makes you sleepy. This happens after about 20 minutes.

When you have had coffee, it is not necessary to fall asleep. It is enough to lie with your eyes closed, watching your breathing. And when the alarm clock rings in 20 minutes, it is not only the alarm clock that wakes you up, but also the caffeine, which just starts to work. Thus, in a short period of time you will get a charge of vigor and will be able to recover to continue working.
