Our latest hero was rapper Travis Scott. We learned from him how to combine sport and chic without going overboard with the latter.

For the final project, we propose to study the style of another musician. His name is directly connected with both fashion and sports. Yes, we’re talking about Kanye West. However, now he can no longer be called so. In 2021, the rapper changed his name to Ye (Ye). Is he not the same anymore? If we judge from the point of view of style, the answer will be unequivocally positive. West’s fashion preferences of the early 2000s are very different from what Ye is broadcasting today.

What was Kanye West like?

The rapper made a loud splash in 2004. At that time, his album The College Dropout took several Grammys at once. But Kanye burst not only into the world of music, the fashion industry also underwent a desperate expansion. West’s style was bold and ambiguous. He gravitated towards preppy, but with a correction for the street-hooligan attitude.

The iconic item of that period was the pink polo, stained with mustard, from the video All Falls Down. The mood for bright colors and other types of fashion expression became a hallmark of the period. In 2007, Kanye created a collaboration with Japanese brand Bape. It was a variation of the Bapesta sneaker in a fun Dropout Bear colorway.

The result of his influence on fashion minds was an increased demand for collaborations. In 2015, a collaboration with adidas began. Replicas for the fruits of joint creativity are now overflowing all marketplaces. Especially popular is the model of sneakers Yeezy Boost 350.

The plunge into laconic brutality continued in 2020. A landmark moment was the Costume Institute Met Gala ball, where Kanye came in black leather. This was a challenge, because the theme of the ball implied something completely different – the creation of an unusual and colorful image.
