A week ago, Dior unveiled its first-ever ski capsule collection, which includes pret-a-porter (ready-to-wear), snowboards, skis and accessories. How did the French fashion house, which is famous for its elegant and graceful style, manage to create a practical outfit for winter sports? And most importantly, why?

Japanese vintage and bright colors

The new Dior collection includes navy blue skis and snowboards with white brand logo, purple down jackets (presumably with detachable sleeves), metallized waterproof insulated jackets, helmets, scarves, gloves and bright yellow hoodies. Also in the capsule are streamlined pants with a rugged lining that have been designed specifically for skiing and snowboarding.

As stated in the official Instagram of the fashion house, the palette of sophisticated and bright colors is inspired by Japanese vintage. This collection is focused only on men, but it is quite possible that in the future Dior will create a line for women as well.

Technology and attention to details

A team of designers headed by Dior’s creative director Kim Jones worked on the collection. The creators had a difficult task – to develop stylish and beautiful things, which correspond to Dior aesthetics and at the same time are characterized by practicality and technology.

Japanese brand Descente, Swiss AK Ski and Swedish POC were responsible for the technical elements of the collection. These companies are the leading manufacturers of ski equipment in their respective countries. “Technical precision is imbued with Dior’s unwavering commitment to detail. High performance is combined with a focus on comfort and flexibility, with an emphasis on protection and convenience,” is how the results of the collaboration were commented by Dior.

Where can I buy items from the collection?

The presentation of the capsule collection took place in the bohemian Soho district of New York. Now the elements of clothing are gradually appearing in the boutiques of the fashion house around the world. Most likely, in the nearest future the collection will get to Dior showcases in Russia.

Why does Dior need a sports collection?

Dior is not the first fashion house that decided to release a ski collection. For example, a few years ago Emporio Armani presented a similar project. It’s not surprising that brands are getting more and more active in this niche: among ski and snowboard lovers there are many who are ready to buy branded equipment.

In addition, for designers, ski equipment is a new space for creativity, where you can give free rein to your imagination.
