How to make healthy homemade chips from fruits and vegetables?

Drying fruits and vegetables at home is another way to preserve the summer harvest and also get nutritious PP chips any time of the year. We tell you how to do it right.

What fruits and vegetables are better to make chips from?

From vegetables, zucchini, eggplant, celery, pumpkin are suitable. And if you want sweet, you can take cranberries, cranberries, apples, pears, plums, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

How to prepare fruits and vegetables for drying

Wash fruits thoroughly, choose only ripe and fresh ones. Celery and pumpkin need to be peeled – with other vegetables it is not necessary to do this. Cut each type of vegetable into thin slices – about 3-5 mm. Then soak them in slightly salted water for about five minutes. After that, lay them out on a paper towel and dry them.

Fruits are also carefully picked and washed. Sour berries (cranberries and cranberries) should be soaked in stevia syrup in advance. Boil water, add sweetener, then pour berries into the syrup and leave for 8-10 hours. After that, tip the berries on a sieve so that the syrup drains.

Apples, pears and plums also require special preparation. They should be soaked in water with citric acid – so the fruit will better preserve its appearance, and after drying will be much tastier.

How to properly dry fruits and vegetables

You can use a special dehydrator or dryer for fruits and vegetables. But an ordinary oven will do. On a baking tray put parchment or silicone mat. Lay out a thin layer of one type of vegetable or fruit. Dry at a temperature of no more than 80 degrees for about 8-12 hours. At the same time, the oven should be ajar so that there is air circulation. Periodically, vegetables and fruits should be turned, and berries should be stirred.

When the chips are ready, you need to take them out of the oven and leave them at room temperature for a while. Then you can remove them in paper or cloth bags.
