History of outdoor pools in Moscow
For those who can’t fly to the sea or go to the dacha, outdoor pools become a real salvation in the heat. In the last few years, more and more such points appear in Moscow.
The very first such pools appeared in the capital back in Soviet times. In 1960, the pool “Moscow” opened, it was built on the site of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. For a long time it was considered the largest in the world. It worked all year round – in winter the water was heated up to 34 degrees – and closed only in severe frosts, for admission paid 1.5 rubles.
Even earlier, in 1956, the Luzhniki pool was opened, and it too served for many years. Most often it was used for sports competitions – there were large stands, and the water space was divided into lanes. Later, the facility became an emergency, and it was closed. Spoiler: now a modern water complex has been opened in its place, told about it below.
