Russian school of yoga. Russian stars spoke out against violence

Famous artists recorded videos in which they compared the torture of people with yoga. This is how they draw attention to the problem.

The rapper Vladi meditates in a gas mask without oxygen, and the presenter Irina Chesnokova is handcuffed on a yoga mat. Has the world gone mad? No, Russian artists starred in a video project called “Russian School of Yoga.” It is dedicated to the problem of torture in Russia. In the video, the artists show the types of torture that are known from the words of victims of violence, as if it were about asanas in yoga. The idea was born from the peaceful names of these tortures, which are similar to the names of asanas: “Elephant”, “Swallow”. The videos also starred actors Nikita Kukushkin, Rinal Mukhametov and presenter Tatiana Lazareva.

“Russian School of Yoga” is a joint work of the Committee Against Torture, creative agency Zebra Hero and the publication “Meduza”. The aim of the project is to vividly demonstrate the cruelty of such torture and draw attention to the problem. According to the Levada Center, every tenth Russian has faced violence or a real threat of violence from law enforcement agencies.
