Scientists from Singapore have invented a bracelet that detects depression

Depression could be detected with a bracelet

There is no universal way to protect yourself from the disease, but you can reduce the risk.

How does a new fitness bracelet that can predict depression work?

Let’s find out together with a psychologist.

Worldwide, about 280 million people face depression. Among other things, many people are now worried about bad news and are also at risk of being in this statistic. Scientists from Singapore have come up with a way to monitor mental health – let’s talk about it.

The device will be useful for people with low levels of self-perception and sensitivity. But there are a number of exceptions.

The novelty has already been tested on 290 adult volunteers, some of whom were completely healthy, some of whom had signs of depression. The participants wore the devices for two weeks and underwent two stages of examination – at the beginning and end of the experiment. The results of the survey were then used to develop the program.

What does the psychologist think?

Hope: It s great if a tool like this can help someone realize what’s wrong with them. The device will be especially useful for people with a low level of self-perception and sensitivity. This bracelet will also come in handy for psychosomatic patients who have a sense of self only when the body is in a lot of pain. But there are a number of exceptions that are important to consider. Depression can be both part of a stress disorder or trigger event and a component of healthy grief accommodation. The important thing here is to take the clinical picture as a whole. Everything is very ambiguous, as the psyche is quite non-linear, fluid. Therefore, it is difficult to give any assessment to the invention of scientists.

Depression is still diagnosed by a specialist, says the psychologist. It is important to be attentive to their condition. After all, in addition to those vital signs that are presented in the study of scientists, there are also so-called hidden forms of depression. They are difficult to recognize, because in these cases there is no depressed mood, apathy or other obvious signs of the disorder. The symptoms are usually bodily in nature, such as insomnia, muscle pain, and gastrointestinal disorders.
