Three men’s haircuts that can ruin any look. Stop list from the barber

Alexander Korneev

Creative Director of the men’s barbershop “5/8”, one of the top 10 barbers in Russia

“The culture of men’s haircuts came to Russia not so long ago – in 2011, while in Europe barbershops have been flourishing since 1983. It’s commendable that we’ve moved away from the “box”, “half-box” and “under the machine”. We won’t talk about how bad these haircuts are, because it’s better to forget about them and not remember them. However, going to a barbershop is still a risky venture. Why?”

The first wave of barbershops were good, but nowadays, going to a men’s barbershop is still buying a cat in a bag. Alas, good barbers are few and far between. Usually in their place sit guys who have learned a couple of fashionable haircuts of the past years and offer these “trends” to everyone indiscriminately.

But the good news is that men have started to look after themselves more. It is no longer considered the prerogative of women. This fact can not but please. But, unlike girls, to whom a month (or even two) missed hairdresser can be even to the face, men have to control the process more carefully. Their outgrown haircuts are not at all colorful, especially when it comes to sharp-fashioned options.

The main thing in going to the barber – regularity. Ideally, every two weeks for ultra-short haircuts; every month for more classic options.

When it comes to hair, you can’t say there are no bad haircuts, there are those that don’t go. There are haircuts that when you see them, you want to say “Cut that right now!”. Here are the top 3 options that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Long haircut (shoulder length)

Long haircut (shoulder length)

1. Shoulder-length

The desire to stand out and add individuality to your look often leads to unexpected experiments with hairstyles. Among them, I would single out one that, in my opinion, defies logic. It neither beautifies nor simplifies life. I’m talking about the shoulder-length haircut.

One of its key problems is its incompatibility with hair type and face shape. Curls tending to the shoulders can create a visual disproportion and make the features too feminine.

In addition, a shoulder-length haircut is a financial burden. It requires regular visits to the stylist to maintain the shape and structure of the hair. Even so, it won’t make you look good, especially if your hair is thin and sparse.

2. Top Knot

Not everyone can be a samurai! In the world of men’s haircuts, there is a noticeable increase in the popularity of top knot haircuts. This style, inspired by ancient Japanese culture, can give the image of originality, but, alas, unsuccessfully.

At first glance, the top knot seems like a stylish and modern choice. However, before adopting this trend, it is worth weighing several aspects.

Upper beam

The top knot look requires careful styling and in most cases looks messy. The top knot is often uncomfortable in everyday life, especially in hot weather.

One of the main problems with this style is that it catches the eye. When a look has such an accent element, it should play up the look. Alas, the top bundle very often does not match the face shape and hair type. In some men, it can look excessive and bulky, creating disproportion.

In general, choosing a top knot haircut is a decision that should be made consciously. Before you start creating a top knot, remember that this option is one of the most unfortunate.

Caesar haircut

3. “Caesar.”

When a classic becomes a clown… “Caesar” is a traditional and always relevant haircut, as many people think. Actually, it’s not.

If the hair is too liquid, it looks poor. Especially ridiculous looks such a haircut on rare blond hair. In addition, “Caesar” is usually not best combined with the natural shape of the skull and the marginal line of hair growth, creating unwanted accents.

Experimenting with your image is a great way to express your personality, but it’s important to remember harmony and practicality. Unsuccessful haircuts can be a real challenge. I advise you to follow the recommendations of professionals. Then you will avoid fashion crashes and will be able to create an image that will reflect your style and character.
