Tired look: exercises to relieve tension after working at the computer

Daily work at the computer can lead to eye strain, resulting in headaches and, in the long run, a significant deterioration of vision. Therefore, you should not forget about rest and regular training of the eye muscles. What exercises will help to effectively and quickly relieve tension? Let’s find out together with ophthalmologist, doctor of the European Medical Center Oleg Belous.

How many hours can I work at the computer?

According to the expert, the time of continuous work in front of the screen should not exceed two hours. It is necessary to take breaks, that is, to alternate work at electronic devices and without them. If your working day is eight hours, the total number of breaks should be from 40 minutes to an hour and a half.

It is also important to have the right lighting in the workplace.

Oleg: The light falls from the left. Lamps or a window are placed on the left side of the workplace. The distance from the eyes to the computer screen is at least 50 cm. In addition, the room should provide sufficient ventilation and humidification of the air.

What exercises will help to overcome eye fatigue?

Oleg: There are different types of exercises for the eyes. I suggest exercises developed by Professor, ophthalmologist Eduard Avetisov.

1. Strongly squeeze the eyes, and then open the eyelids. Repeat 5-6 times.

2. Turn the head to the right, look at the elbow of the right hand, turn the head to the other side and look at the elbow of the left hand, return to the starting position. Repeat 5-6 times.

3. Raise your eyes up, make them circular movements clockwise, then – counterclockwise. Repeat 5-b times.

4. Stretch your arms forward, look at your fingertips. Raise your hands up, taking an inhalation, at the same time follow your hands with your eyes without raising your head. On exhalation lower your hands. Repeat 4-5 times.

5. Look directly in front of you at a distant object for 2-3 seconds, then move your gaze to the tip of your nose for 3-5 seconds. Repeat 6 times.

6. Close your eyelids, massage them with the tips of your index fingers for 30 seconds.

Do exercises help to restore eyesight?

Unfortunately, it is impossible to restore your eyesight in this way. However, training for the eyes will help to improve it a little and prevent further deterioration. As an ophthalmologist notes, such exercises do not significantly affect visual acuity, but they help relieve tension and give your eyes a rest.

But in general, to maintain good eyesight, you need to monitor your health in general. By eating a healthy diet, getting enough vitamins and exercising, you take care of your eyes.
