Everybody in a hammock! 5 reasons to do aerial yoga

What is aeroyoga?

Aeroyoga or anti-gravity yoga is a fitness program developed in the early 90s in the United States. Antigravity combines yoga practices, acrobatic elements, stretching, Pilates and Callanetics. Unlike classical directions, aerobics uses special equipment (silk hammocks). Such a device allows practicing asanas that are not available in conventional yoga.

“Saddle with leg extension”

Maria Komolova, master trainer of group programs direction of the federal network of fitness clubs X-Fit: “Anti-gravity yoga is aimed at improving general health and physical activity with the help of exercises and a hammock. The purpose of the exercises is to relieve the spine and align the body along one line while stretching and strengthening the muscles”.

After this presentation, you probably already wanted to sign up for an aeroyoga studio. But if that wasn’t enough, we’ve prepared a few reasons why you’ll definitely want to spend an hour or two in a hammock after reading this.

No restrictions

“The X-GRAVITY program is suitable for all fitness levels, there are even special classes for children.” So, no matter how old you are or how fit you are, there are no barriers to trying aerobics.

“Saddle.”

Strengthen your muscles and tone your body

Even if your goals do not include “lose weight” or “gain mass”, this is no reason not to go to aerobics!
Maria Komolova, master trainer of the direction of group programs of the federal network of fitness clubs X-Fit: “During aeroyoga you restore the circulatory system, improve flexibility and mobility of joints. Aeroyoga is also a self-massage, because after some asanas you feel tingling and stretching of the spinal muscles”.

Contraindications that don’t exist

Anti-gravity yoga can be used as functional training because different exercises and poses engage different muscle groups. You also put less pressure on your joints compared to regular yoga – the fabric of the hammock is very soft and elastic and less strain on your back and neck.

However, inverted aerial yoga positions are best approached with caution by those who have recently undergone surgery or have eye disease, glaucoma, and blood pressure fluctuations. If you have had Botox injections, it is recommended that you do aerobics no sooner than four days after the injection procedure.

The fourth reason is that it improves your mood

“The feeling of your body floating above the ground is beautiful and unforgettable! Depression and stress will instantly disappear.” We couldn’t agree more, because aerial yoga really does have a “cradle” effect – during the practice you return to an atmosphere of complete comfort and safety, which helps to improve your psycho-emotional state.

The fifth reason – inverted postures

The calling card of anti-gravity yoga is inverted poses, which are not available in any other sport. When you are in a head-down position, your organs “rest” from the constant pull of gravity, your brain vessels are cleared (which improves thinking), your endocrine system is stimulated, lower back tension goes away, posture improves, swelling and cramps go away. We can endlessly list the advantages of asanas in the inverted body position, but we think that even these will be enough for you to definitely want to try aerobics.

Tips for beginners

“I recommend starting to exercise from 2-3 times a week. The optimal time for training is an hour and a half. During aeroyoga the main thing is to concentrate, “agree” with your body and listen carefully to the recommendations of the trainer!”.

Tip: it is better to wear a sports elastic top made of non-slip fabric that fits the body, and the same leggings. Shoes are not required for training.
