Flight analysis: top 5 flying machines at Red Bull Flugtag

August 13, 2017 was definitely the most exciting day of this summer. The annual Red Bull Flugtag event was held in Moscow on the Rowing Channel, where the bravest pilots tested homemade flying machines and tried their best to fight gravity. The winner was determined not only by the range of flight, but also by the creativity of the design of the device and the overall impression of the performance of the whole team.

In our selection we have gathered the most colorful participants of Red Bull Flugtag and their original flying structures, which crossed the air (and water) last weekend!

Pop Corn

These creative guys from St. Petersburg piloted a huge popcorn box. During the intended performance, the pilots and team members were dressed in costumes of an admission ticket, 3D glasses, a soda glass, and a director’s clapper.

And although the homemade popcorn was probably too big to fly far away, the team from the Northern Capital was definitely appreciated by many spectators!

Hussar Flying Squadron

“Hussars are one of the symbols of youth, masculinity and unbridled courage,” said the team members representing Tver. In their opinion, this image is extremely close in spirit to the participants of the event.

Having organized a costumed parade on the ramp and flown up on a huge bottle of champagne, the guys eventually became silver medalists.

Natural overkill

And these competitors from Moscow almost made Flugtag history by showing a negative range result for the first time.

However, their homemade pterodactyl looked quite spectacular and, I am sure, was remembered by many spectators. The pilots’ clothing was also a bold and original decision: the team members pushing the flying machine were dressed in dinosaur costumes.

Nuclei of Fury

The brave pilots from Nizhny Novgorod prepared in advance for a good swim after the flight. Their flying structure was made in the form of a pirate ship, bearing the name of the team’s hometown. Even the pirates didn’t forget about the sails and flags with emblems!

I only have to ask

Another participants from Tver took off on… a disgruntled grandmother! As the pilots said, they were inspired by five old ladies, who in the doctor’s waiting room “at the same time only wanted to ‘ask'”.

Such an energetic and funny pitch, of course, the audience of the event could not leave without attention.

Red Bull Flugtag once again made the weekend of many Muscovites and guests of the capital spectacular and intense. After so many ups and downs of the teams it became absolutely clear: the main thing here is not victory, but creativity, friendship and energy of the young and desperate.
