How to properly summarize the year in social networks: a checklist from a psychologist

What to write about at the end of the year for the owner of a public or personal page? It is logical to assume that about the results – the achievements or failures that occurred during these 12 months. The tradition is long-standing, going back in time.

It has always been customary to summarize your life over the past year to analyze – what has been realized, and what still needs to be worked on. Psychologists consider this practice useful. However, internal reflection is so called because it is not very suitable for public scrutiny.

For deep reflection, it is better to spill your thoughts on paper, in your personal diary. If there is a desire to share the results with a large audience, adhere to certain rules. In order not to attract haters and not to become an object of ridicule.

Summarizing your year in social media is a bad idea. Unfortunately, people are so organized, but not everyone knows how to be happy for their neighbor or for a stranger.

Your followers are not always those who like you and are happy about your successes, victories and endeavors. Most likely, many of them will enjoy if something in your personal life, work or health goes wrong. Depend on such a display of feelings from an inner sense of unhappiness. When you are depressed – you are unable to genuinely rejoice for others.

If you really want a final post with information that will be sincere and useful, tell us what books or good movies you watched or read this year. Share an opinion. Tell what the piece made you think about.

Remember, when summarizing the year on social media, you should be prepared that even the most innocuous things can cause a heath. Refrain from being too explicit.

If you really want to remember important moments, it is better to write down the results of the year in a diary. Sit down and thoroughly work through the information for each month. Enjoy the process, and then make yourself a cup of tea or coffee with a sense of satisfaction.

A checklist of safe topics

  • Helpful habits. Share what you’ve managed to build up. For example, you’ve learned not to throw things around or to budget wisely (no details).
  • Hobbies. Tell about a new activity that has come into your life. Knitting, cooking, baking, copywriting.
  • Completed projects. It’s fascinating to reiterate information about completed projects that you’ve already heard about on your blog.
  • Wishes for subscribers. Support is usually met with general wishes for the coming year: kindness, coziness, comfort, understanding.

Check-list on dangerous topics

  • Health: improvement or deterioration of the situation.
  • Political views.
  • Personal life: family, kinship, sexual relations. All this should remain outside the views of subscribers.
  • Improvement or deterioration of financial situation.
  • Relationships with friends: improvement or deterioration.
  • Future plans: finances, relationships, having children, major purchases.
