No better than cigarettes: why sausage is considered harmful

What is the danger of sausage?

It is worth giving it up, even if you do not have the goal of losing weight.

Sausage products are a favorite delicacy of many people. Boiled, boiled-smoked, semi-smoked, raw-smoked, raw-dried – there are a huge number of types of sausage. It can be difficult to pass by the counter, from where the appetizing aromas are coming. But how does it affect the body and is a short moment of pleasure worth such consequences? Let’s find out together with nutriciologist Andrei Semeshov.

Why should not eat sausage?

Sausage and in general all meat cooking is such a variant of food, which is harmful simply by default, as a fact. For example, you can hear on every corner that sugar is harmful. But sugar is not harmful in itself, but only in excessive amounts. With sausage, however, things are different.

Whether you eat a small piece or half a stick is not so important – processed meat is harmful in any dosage.

Andrei: It is conditional – like a shot of vodka. There is zero benefit from it, but there is pleasure. And, in general, no one forbids it. But you have to realize that sausage consumption is harmful and carries certain risks. Another example: a piece of sausage is like a cigarette. If you like to smoke, it’s your right, there’s a warning on the packet. But the sausage package, alas, does not. Although it should be.

What exactly is the danger of sausage?

Unlike red meat in general, which is written down in the list of cancer-provoking factors, or “rehabilitated”, sausages have this title quite confidently and undeniably. These risk factors are caused by the production technology. For example, the very appetizing pink color of boiled sausage. Boil a piece of meat: it will not be so pink and attractive in contrast to sausage – “hello” nitrates. And who knows what else may appear in the composition of new delicacies.

On top of that, sausages have a terrible composition in terms of fat content: a lot of animal fat, often you can even find carbohydrates, and very little protein.

Andrei: Why eat it? My opinion here is categorical – to bypass the counters with such slices. Well, if you like it so much that you can’t live without it, try to imagine that such a treat kills your body a little bit every time.
