Marvel and “Jumanji”. How Karen Gillan was transformed

Today in Russia premiered the second part of “Jumanji”, which was called “New Level”. According to the plot of the movie, three friends are again forced to find themselves in a computer game to find a fourth friend – Spencer. However, in virtual reality, a catch awaits them: not everyone manages to reincarnate into an already familiar character. Only one of the heroines, the modest Martha, again becomes an agile and strong girl. This role and performed by Karen Gillan.

From skinny to powerful villain from the comics

In both films of the franchise “Jumanji” actress amazed viewers with a sporty figure. But the girl’s natural physique is far from muscularity: Karen has always been tall – 178 cm – and skinny.

Everything changed when Marvel approved Gillan as Nebula in the fantasy “Guardians of the Galaxy”. The role of a negative character did not embarrass the girl, and she began to prepare for filming.

When I was younger, my dad used to tell me, “You don’t want to be a Bond girl, you want to be a villain!”

Karen Gillan’s diet: protein diet

To look convincing on the screen, the girl had to train hard and follow a special diet to build muscle mass. The diet included products that contain maximum protein: meat, fish, eggs, dairy. Karen also had to give up the usual snacks. Fatty sandwiches were replaced by chicken breast, avocado and peppers on whole-grain bread with seeds.

The actress liked the new diet so much that she started sticking to it in her daily life, regardless of potential roles. Gillan continued to eat more protein and carefully monitor the amount of fat and carbohydrates she consumed.

Day four

Warm-up: stretching, 800-meter run.

Martial arts training, including MMA, and cardio.

Day Five

Warm-up: stretching, 3 rounds of 60 seconds on a punching bag, 3 rounds of 100 jump rope.

Back and armexercises:

  • deadlift;
  • block pull to the lower back;
  • block pull to the chest;
  • pull-ups with a narrow grip;
  • bending arms on the lower block;
  • pulling the upper block behind the head.

Periods of filming and preparations for them at some point come to an end and give way to everyday life. Karen Gillan started working on herself in 2013, before the first Guardians of the Galaxy, and already today, six years later, we can see her in still excellent athletic shape in the new movie. The experience of the actress is a good example of the fact that you should work out and watch your diet regularly, not before important events or selective roles.
