Q&A: is red wine really good for your health?

Rumors that red wine is good for our body have been going around for a long time. Not for nothing, for example, in France it is customary to drink a glass at lunch and dinner. In this material we have collected the views of scientists from around the world and found out how wine affects sports lifestyle and the body as a whole, and also tried to answer the question in what quantities it should be drunk. So is the benefit of red wine a myth or reality?

We will not bore you and answer at once: it is more of a reality than a myth. But let’s be clear: the beneficial properties of red wine, which the researchers have identified, remain so only when you consume wine in small quantities.

Benefits of red wine

The main healing properties of wine are due to the substance resveratrol. For example, scientists at the Norwegian University found that it reduces the feeling of hunger. In particular, they found that thanks to it, the desire to eat something sweet falls.

1-2 glasses of red wine a day reduces the tendency to fullness.

Among the key properties of wine also highlight the following:

  • red wine improves brain function and strengthens the immunity of nerve cells;
  • it raises estrogen levels, a hormone essential for healthy bones;
  • a glass of red wine and regular consumption of fish ensures the normal functioning of the cardiovascular system. Disease prevention is due to the fact that these products contain omega-3 acid;
  • scientists have found that red wine helps blood vessels to relax and reduces both systolic and diastolic blood pressure;
  • wine slows the aging of the hearing organs.

Wine and sports

French researchers have found that drinking red wine helps the process of burning extra fat. A little red in the evening before bed will likely only make your workouts more effective.

Red wine is also worth considering for those who lead a sedentary lifestyle. Of course, sitting still and sipping wine, you should not expect any magical effect. Wine will still not be able to completely replace muscle activity.

There is also a claim that a glass of wine replaces one workout at the gym. It may replace one, but you shouldn’t let wine take the exercise out of your life.

How much red wine should I drink?

There is no single correct answer to this question. But on average, one or two glasses a day is the optimal portion. You can limit yourself to five days a week.

Why red wine?

Wine from red grapes is useful mainly due to resveratrol. This substance is almost completely absent in white wines.

Why wine?

Why drink alcohol when you can take resveratrol separately? Researchers from the University of Washington came to this conclusion: you can take it, but in its pure form, this substance is not as beneficial as in a glass of red.

Of course, we do not urge you to run to the store and buy all the red wine. Firstly, remember that you need to observe moderation: only in this case you can benefit your health. Secondly, it is necessary to understand that everyone’s perception of wine components is individual. It is best to consult a doctor on this matter.
